Miscarriage Symptoms, Causes and Treatments

Today, let's talk about miscarriage, a situation that we do not want any expectant mother to encounter, but it does occur in some cases.

Miscarriage may occur within the first 20 weeks of pregnancy. Considering the rates, an average of 10% of pregnancies can end in miscarriage, and these miscarriages usually occur in the first 12 weeks.

What are the symptoms of miscarriage?

The most important thing is undoubtedly bleeding. However, remember that not all bleeding is a sign of miscarriage. Another distinctive feature is the constant cramp-like pain (especially in the pelvis) after bleeding.

If you have both symptoms, you should definitely call your doctor. If you have these symptoms at the beginning of pregnancy, you may be experiencing an ectopic pregnancy. Your doctor will check the status of your pregnancy with ultrasound or blood test.

What are the causes of miscarriage?

The fertilized egg may have chromosome problems. The egg or sperm may have the wrong number of chromosomes. This prevents the development of the egg.

Sometimes the fertilized egg cannot attach to the uterus. As a result, it may appear low. Additionally, structural problems of the embryo may prevent development. For this reason, it may not be clear why a woman who got pregnant in a healthy way miscarried. Sometimes, what we call a null pregnancy occurs in an egg with a chromosome problem. The egg is attached to the uterus and the placenta begins to form, but embryo development stops after a short time. Since the placenta secretes hormones, tests show pregnancy, but when examined with ultrasound, it is seen that there is nothing in the placenta.

The baby's first heartbeat can be heard after the 6th week. Even if you don't have bleeding or cramps after hearing a heartbeat, you're still at risk. Let's be careful.

Let's take a look at the reasons that strengthen the possibility of miscarriage.

If you think you are having a miscarriage or have unusual symptoms such as bleeding and cramping, call your doctor immediately. Your doctor will check your emergency situation and take necessary precautions. If your bleeding and cramps continue, your doctor will perform the necessary checks with ultrasound. If the problem is not visible but the spotting continues, it should be checked again with ultrasound in the 7th week. If you can hear your baby's heartbeat this week, it means your pregnancy is going normal. The risk of miscarriage has decreased. However, if your bleeding increases and continues, ultrasound checks should be continued. The embryo may grow, but you may not get a heartbeat.

If your first three weeks are behind you and the ultrasound shows uterine contraction and opening, your doctor may perform uterine suture surgery due to the risk of premature birth or miscarriage.

Also, if you are at risk of miscarriage, your doctor may recommend you to rest at home.

If you are having a miscarriage, your bleeding will increase in a short time. you had a miscarriage It can also be eliminated spontaneously in the tissues along with your bleeding. In this case, if the falling pieces can be analyzed, the cause of the miscarriage can be investigated in the laboratory. If these tissues have not been removed, your doctor can either wait for these tissues to be removed on their own or intervene. These tissues can be removed with medications, but side effects such as diarrhea, nausea and vomiting may occur. However, if this situation will strain you physically and psychologically, these tissues can be removed through abortion and genetic testing can be done to find the source of the problem.

Slight bleeding and cramps may continue for a week or two after the miscarriage. If your bleeding continues heavily and you have symptoms of infection (odor, fever and pain), call your doctor.

Your concerns after miscarriage are normal. However, having a miscarriage does not mean that you have no chance of getting pregnant again. If you are over 35 and have a certain medical condition, your doctor will perform special blood and genetic testing.

You must wait a while to get pregnant after a miscarriage. It may take 4 or 6 weeks for your period to become regular. This time may take longer to prepare you psychologically and physically. You can use birth control pills to avoid getting pregnant during this period.

Some women try to get pregnant immediately so that you can cope with the miscarriage psychologically. Some people prefer to rest for a long time. You should choose the most suitable time for you and your partner. You can get psychological support during this period. Whatever happens, remember that you are not in an unsolvable situation.

Hoping to see you in healthy days
