First of all, it is worth noting that our psychological health does not easily deteriorate due to trivial reasons. That is, when we get scolded by our boss at work, when the weather gets hot/cold, when we argue with our partner, when we gain weight, etc. Our psychological health is not immediately at risk. One of the most important factors in the deterioration of our psychological health is long-term exposure to many similar stressors. In other words, if you have a boss who is mobbing you, if you are in a relationship where you are constantly arguing and cannot reach emotional satisfaction, if you live in a northern country where the sun is rarely seen, if the weight you gain affects your physical health, or if you constantly worry about your appearance, you may experience mood disorders or anxiety, especially depression. It means that your probability of experiencing the disorder is quite high.
Similarly, your child's psychological health will not be damaged just because you raised your voice at him a few times (of course, the ideal should never happen, but none of us live ideal lives), because you said no to something he wanted, or because his friend vomited on him. However, if a child lives in an environment where there is no love and respect, is exposed to emotional, physical, verbal violence/abuse/neglect, and cannot receive unconditional love, his psychological health is at serious risk. When we look at it now, you may be thinking, 'My child is fine, I screamed, beat him, but look, nothing happened', but unfortunately, it is not possible for a child raised with this kind of approach not to get injured...
Just like that. We do not become sick as soon as an infection enters the body. During the incubation period, microbes gradually settle in our body and if they take over, the stressful experiences we experience gradually take over our psychological health and suddenly we find ourselves in the grip of a psychological disease. Therefore, we should listen carefully to both ourselves and our children and look for ways to deal with infection (stress) as soon as it enters the body.
