Today, brushing techniques, mouth care waters and many other mechanical and chemical cleaning systems are produced. However, increased consumption of sticky, acidic and sugary foods causes the proliferation of various microorganisms in the gums, teeth and saliva and causes diseases. Gingivitis, the first stage of plaque formation, matures in 12-24 hours without brushing. The gums turn from pink to red and can be completely healed after brushing. Meanwhile, bacteria that destroy gum tissue multiply in the mouth and these bacteria begin to be swallowed with saliva. Some studies have shown that gum disease-causing bacteria are effective in a type of Alzheimer's disease.
Plaques lasting longer than 2-7 days mineralize on the tooth surface under the influence of saliva and food at the edges of the gums and initiate the formation of yellow or dark brown tartar. In this case, the gums are very sensitive, often painful and bleeding. The number of bacteria in this period is higher, and it is not only bacteria that we swallow with saliva but also blood and infected tissues. In later periods, bone loss and loosening of teeth may occur.
When brushing is not done, not only gum diseases occur, but also caries occurs. Caries-causing bacteria divide into groups among themselves and form different business partnerships. While some bacteria try to make the tooth surface more sticky, some create indentations on the tooth surface with the acid they secrete, and some invade the living tissues of the tooth. In the presence of caries in the mouth, the number of many bacteria increases and these bacteria are carried to the body with saliva.
Not only these bacteria that cause diseases in the teeth and gum tissues, but they can also spread to our body every time we swallow. Oral care and optimum oral health are a prerequisite for whole-body health.
