Sports are good for people both physically, mentally and psychologically. We all know that we release dopamine, the happiness hormone, through sports. We start exercising with enthusiasm but have difficulty continuing. If we do not have to do sports due to any health problems, if we just want to keep fit or stay in shape, we should first know that we are not professional athletes. It is not possible for us to do sports with the discipline of a professional athlete. Since we all have many responsibilities such as children, spouses, work and home, and we are a society that is culturally distant from sports, we cannot do regular sports.
The first advice I give to my clients as a psychologist who advises them to do sports during their therapy process is; They should not be unfair to themselves in this regard.
But my second advice to include sports in our lives is; It's up to you to decide what you need with an expert. If you are given a program that you find difficult to follow, ask them to change it to suit you best. It is important that the program is not ideal, but that it is suitable for you and that it is prepared in a version that you will not get bored of doing. By starting with a program that will not strain you too much, you will achieve your realistic goals and your motivation will increase. This way, you start to enjoy sports and make it a part of your life.
My third advice is; If they are not going to exercise outdoors, they should find a gym close to their home. If you can go to the gym in the morning and at noon, you will be happy that the halls are generally empty at these hours and that you can start the day fresh by exercising without losing your energy during the day. Being close to the gym will not cause you any trouble and going to the gym will not be a hassle. By providing sports consultancy in my therapies, I ensure that psychological well-being occurs more quickly and is permanent. Instead of seeing sports as a factor that stresses us out and makes us feel unsuccessful, we should consider it as a factor that adds quality to our lives, as well as supporting our mental, physical and psychological health.
