Prof, who intensively applies and provides training in this treatment method, which requires good training and experience, in important training centers, especially in Ankara. Dr. Okutan is known as one of the few most experienced surgeons in our country in this technique. Prof. has a special interest in spine surgery and spine-related pain treatment. Dr. M. Özerk Okutan answered our questions about this treatment method.
- To which patients can Endoscopic Pain Treatment be applied?
Chronic waist and This treatment method is an endoscopic closed technique applied to patients with leg pain. Particularly important patient groups to which this method can be applied are patients with narrowed spinal canals, spinal deformities and therefore suffering from nerve compression, and patients with waist and leg pain who have previously undergone back surgery for various reasons but did not receive sufficient benefit, and who did not get results from the non-surgical treatments they received before. It is also applied to patients who are too old to undergo open surgery on their lumbar spine, who do not want open surgery, who cannot undergo heavy surgery due to internal problems such as heart and lung, or who are at risk of anesthesia by putting them to sleep. It is a treatment method that I have been using for a long time as a serious option for the treatment of chronic back and leg pain in these patients, and whose results both my patients and I are satisfied with.
- How is this procedure done?
- How is this procedure done? strong>
A closed transaction. Using a natural opening in the coccyx, we enter the spinal canal through a very small hole of 3 millimeters with a special catheter containing a camera and laser system. Following this, we see through the camera the abnormal structures that cause waist and leg pain by compressing the spinal canal and nerves and perform pain relief procedures. All procedures take approximately 20 minutes.
- Are patients put to sleep during this procedure?
No. An important advantage of this procedure is that it can be performed without the patient being anesthetized, either by anesthetizing the waist or with light sedation. For this, the fact that the Anesthesiology and Reanimation team is very experienced makes our job much easier.
- How many days can patients return to their normal life?
This is the most important advantage of endoscopic microsurgery. The patient stays in the hospital only on the evening of the procedure. In the morning, if he wishes, he can fully return to his daily life and work. It does not require any special rest or care.
- What would you like to say as a final word?
The name of the disease may be the same. However, it causes different complaints in everyone and may require different treatments. Therefore, no matter what treatment we will apply, I think the best approach is to decide on the treatment type together with the patient. I wish everyone a pain-free, healthy life.
