Methods of Birth: Before Caesarean section birth was used routinely, which was born out of necessity due to risky pregnancies and problems occurring during and after normal birth, a title was not opened as a method of birth, but the excessive prevalence of Caesarean section, apart from some medical requirements, brought with it complications and unexpected troubles. ..
First of all, in practical terms, birth methods are divided into 2 main headings;
The fact that the cesarean section rate in developed countries is approximately 15% of total births, and in our country this rate has increased to 70% and even up to 90% in some provinces, as in every operation, both the mother and the baby suffer. These cause problems that we do not expect to see often. These
As my teacher always says, "the method mentioned as NORMAL is good because it is natural", so no matter what reason you do it, we create an unnatural situation with Caesarean section
1- "BREAST'S MILK" from a mother who has given birth normally comes earlier and in greater quantity than from a mother who has had a Caesarean section. The reason for this is that it is related to the release of hormones called prolactin and oxytonin in the mother as the baby progresses towards birth. p>
2- "COMLICATIONS" that may occur due to caesarean section being a surgical intervention; Excessive bleeding, wound and intra-abdominal infections, intra-abdominal adhesions, delay in the intake of foods required for milk, etc. "DURATION OF STAY IN THE HOSPITAL" also varies significantly. While a mother who has given birth normally can be discharged after 8 hours, a mother who has had a Caesarean section should be kept under observation in the hospital for at least 24 hours.
3-After the mother gives birth. Then, she must be ready for the new "RESPONSIBILITIES TO BE UNDERTAKEN" (breastfeeding, taking care of her baby, etc.). Since there is no surgery in normal birth, the mother can breastfeed and diaper her baby easily and immediately. In Caesarean section, pain due to the operation, inability to feed for a certain period of time, Due to situations such as burping problems, inactivity for the health of the incision area, the baby Nursing care and breastfeeding process may be negatively affected.
4-According to research, it is written in medical articles that "NEONBORN JAUNDICE" is less common in babies of mothers who give birth normally.
5- "RESPIRATORY Distress" is seen much less frequently in babies of mothers who give birth normally. It is known that the reason for this situation is the steroids secreted by the baby as it progresses through the birth canal.
6- Normal Birth is a complete "CEREMONY". Since ancient times, birth has been one of the most important ceremonies in the history of the expectant mother and that family, and this feature is seen as an example of the theme of "SUCCESS, COURAGE and SACRIFICE" of the expectant mother. Mothers who have given birth normally experience these emotions more deeply than ever before because they actively participate in the birth. As ÖZGÜR ATLI, I initiate the first mother-baby communication by placing the baby on the mother's womb as soon as the umbilical cord is cut. The placenta of the mother who has experienced this situation (the organ that feeds the baby) separates earlier and breast milk comes much earlier. Such communication does not occur at this level during cesarean birth.
''IN LAST SUMMARY'': Caesarean section is an operation that can save the lives of both the mother and the baby when necessary, for many reasons ( It protects against many problems when performed (such as fetal distress, large babies, baby arrival anomalies, etc.), but nowadays it has become a routine practice applied to every expectant mother with an excuse or intimidation. My patients know that I compare this to "appendicitis surgery", that is, appendicitis operation. It has saved many lives, but should we perform appendicitis surgery on every healthy person we encounter?
It is a fact that every mother should give birth by the method she wants, but I think that we, physicians, should fulfill our duty to explain the pros and cons of the methods.
PAINFREE NORMAL BIRTH (EPIDURAL BIRTH)
In our prenatal conversations with my patients, the fear of normal birth and the biggest factor that makes them prefer Caesarean section are Normal. I have determined that there is pain during birth. Our patients naturally ask and learn about birth from their family elders or relatives who have suffered a lot of pain due to births in unequipped places, and they do not want a Normal Birth to avoid this pain. However, with "EPIDURAL ANESTHESIA", which has been actively and successfully applied for a long time, the fearful pain of birth can be prevented by 95% and easily reduced to a tolerable level.
Another question asked is that there is a risk of paralysis in this form of anesthesia, this is COMPLETELY It is an urban legend, there is no such risk in competent hands (anaesthetist doctor), another question is the possibility of causing permanent headache and low back pain. The important nuance here is the differences between waist anesthesia (SPINAL) in Caesarean Section and waist anesthesia (EPIDURAL) in Normal Birth. .. While the lower body part is completely immobile in spinal anesthesia, in Epidural anesthesia the patient can walk, go to the toilet comfortably, only he does not feel pain, and the risk of headache and lower back pain is very low in Epidural anesthesia (less than 1%).
