Ingrown hair occurs as a result of the hairs belonging to any part of the body (scalp hair, back hair, etc.) falling out and penetrating the skin from another recessed part of the body where these hairs can attach. Ingrown hairs can be seen in many indented parts of the body. The place where it is most common is the coccyx. It is seen in the coccyx region in 95% of the cases, and it is also seen in the belly area, although not very frequently. What is seen in the face, legs and armpit area is an ingrown hair problem, not Pilonidal Sinus. Although the symptoms and treatment are similar for all ingrown hairs, there are differences depending on the location. In this section, we will try to explain ingrown hairs, especially in the coccyx.
How does ingrown hair occur: It is definitely not a congenital disease, but an acquired disease. As a result of the hair belonging to any part of our body penetrating the skin and penetrating it, it creates an infected tunnel there and this progresses and turns into an infected hair sac in that area. Factors such as excessive sweating, poor hygiene, being overweight or sitting slouched make it easier for hair to enter the skin, increasing the formation of ingrown hairs. Genetic factors are also important. It is more common in individuals whose parents have ingrown hairs. It is more common in individuals with a lot of hair and hard hair structure.
Infected hairs penetrating the skin form a hair cyst under the skin, the size of which varies from patient to patient. The infection in these hair cysts sometimes progresses and flows out of one or more holes, creating a foul-smelling discharge. As a result of the irritation caused by this discharge, a rash-like condition occurs in this area, and the patient may feel pain, itching and sensitivity in this area, as well as the bad smell. Sometimes these holes become clogged and the liquid that cannot flow out accumulates here. Microorganisms in this accumulated infected fluid multiply and form an abscess. When an abscess forms, a painful, red swelling occurs in this area. In addition, in direct proportion to the severity of the abscess, the patient may have symptoms of infection such as fever and chills.

1-Primary Closure: It is a surgery performed by directly closing the remaining gap after removing the area where ingrown hair occurs.
3- Flap closure: After removing the ingrown hair tissue, it is a surgery to close the area without leaving a dead space by shifting a tissue from the appropriate side with an appropriate technique. B
4-Closure with skin graft: It is based on closing the gap left behind with a skin graft after the ingrown hair tissue is removed.
Non-Surgical methods:
In order for these methods to be applied, ingrown hairs must be at an early stage.
