Losing Weight - Maintaining Weight

The first focus of individuals with weight problems is to lose weight. Weight loss achieved in any way, under any circumstances, healthy or unhealthy, permanent or temporary. However, the maintenance process is much more complicated than the weight loss process.

The body changes many things, making the weight maintenance process difficult. Let's take a look at these processes;

1) We cannot change the number of fat cells during the slimming process, but we can reduce them in size. However, these small fat cells have more fat storage capacity than the previous ones.

2) Hormones (leptin) that provide satiety are secreted from fat cells. The amount of hormones released from fat cells decreasing in size also decreases. This means that your appetite increases as you lose weight.

3) Energy restriction in the diet increases the level of some hormones (neuropeptide-Y). This means being more fond of foods containing carbohydrates. So, as you lose weight, you will want more desserts, cakes, pastries and chocolates, so be prepared for this.

4) After the diet, the hormones that increase hunger in the body (ghrelin) increase, while the hormones that provide satiety (cholecystokinin, peptideYY) decrease. Every decrease you see on the scale returns to you as a potential for gaining some appetite and fat.

5) Metabolic rate slows down due to the muscle tissue lost during weight loss. Therefore, the best thing is to lose weight and preserve muscle tissue with exercise support. We have also understood that wrong diets make you lose muscle and you enter a vicious cycle.

6) After losing weight, more cortisol is secreted in the body, which means increased appetite and increased fat storage.

7) Some hormones increase Increased levels (epinephrine and norepinephrine) reduce heart rate and metabolic rate, while also increasing fat storage and weight gain.

So we lost 10 kilos and the job is not over. The real adventure begins now. Please stop constantly gaining and losing weight and try to maintain it even if you lose 3 kilos.
