Parents Don't Want Distance Education

Psychological resilience; It is an important concept that shows how much a person can adapt to the events he encounters and requires a kind of mental flexibility. Many things that we started to experience with the corona process are now becoming our new normal, and therefore, the sooner we adapt to this, the more positively our psychological and physical health develops.

Our formal education process, which we have suspended as of March, is in direct proportion to the number of cases. It looks like it will continue remotely and online for a while. At least for now, we want to believe that schools will open to formal education on September 21.

So, how was online education in March-June?

The quarantine-epidemic that affects our health, economy, business life and psychology. I think that both parents and students who tried to continue online education due to the illness factor did their best. Together we experienced something quite extraordinary and experienced something new.

What was the feedback about the online education process, with which we are now more experienced?

This issue is discussed by both educators, students and Let's talk from the perspective of parents:

There is no teacher who is involved in the online education process who can say that I liked this way of education very much. Each educator believes that nothing can compare to teaching a lesson face to face, live, by touching the moment with the student. “I am willing to spend more class time, as long as I see my children live,” said a teacher friend of mine. Teachers, who use the many advantageous opportunities of online education, state that health comes first and that our priority should be to reduce the level of this epidemic.

What about the students? At this point, different things can be expressed depending on the education levels:

We saw that it was very difficult for the pre-school level to be included in the online education process. Secondary school and high school levels appeared to adapt faster. As for the primary school level, I think they achieved much better success than expected, with the support of their parents. Yes, what are your parents? In this period when they were involved in the process as teachers, the parents were seriously tired.

Many of the parents experienced a situation in which their parenting roles were mixed with the teaching role, and their home arrangements and their own work and social lives were affected. We went through a period. The economic, psychological and physical problems that followed greatly affected their resilience. With the new normalization, parents who can take a little more vacation and breathe now want to start formal education and somehow shape their own order. Especially families where both parents work do not know how to manage the online education process and do not want to hear about another postponement after September 21. However, unfortunately, we must never forget that it is our behaviors (weddings, funerals, attending organizations, etc.) that will affect this cycle in which each of us is involved. As long as this process of complacency continues, our children will not be able to return to school.

So, how can we make online education most efficient now that its extension seems to be a possibility?

We are more experienced, admittedly. So now we know what's going well and what's not. As someone who is directly involved with students throughout this process, I will present you with two sides of the table. Teacher-parent-student collaboration again showed its results in online education. That we are now starting to create our new normal; I think we have moved into a period in which we have reduced our level of anxiety and uncertainty and can look forward with more hope.

The most indispensable part of online education is a good order. A desk, course equipment, a good internet connection and solitude... We have made great progress both academically and emotionally with many of the students we have managed to establish this arrangement with. There was no student whose sleep pattern was not disrupted. This created an adaptation problem at first, but it was later overcome, like many other issues.

In another table, I can express how online education cannot be successful. We got stuck at the beginning when we couldn't get our sleep routine right. after In cases where the order we are talking about could not be established in any way (where the student attends the lesson with other family members, plays with the camera and microphone at breakfast or lying on the sofa, holds the phone or tablet in his hand), unfortunately, the student's academic and psychological willingness decreased greatly. At this point, less progress has been made with uncooperative parents.

I see that parents are now more experienced and more willing to cooperate at this point. Our parents are very sensitive about education. And while there is still uncertainty about how this pandemic process will progress in schools, they want their children to get used to the new normal as soon as possible.

All efforts in which the advantages of online education are used to a high extent and collaboration is carried out bear fruit. As long as we believe and want.

Anything is possible when you work hard!
