Migraine is a chronic disorder characterized by recurrent moderate and severe headaches with some symptoms generally seen in the autonomic nervous system. The word migraine is derived from the Greek hemicrania, "pain on one side of the head" [1] "half" and (cranio), "skull". It takes between 2-72 hours. Symptoms may include nausea, vomiting, photophobia (increased sensitivity to light), phonophobia (increased sensitivity to sound), and pain usually increases with physical activity.[2]
Migraine is thought to be due to a mixture of environmental and hereditary factors. .[3] Approximately two-thirds of the cases are also seen in the family.[4] Changing hormone levels can also cause: migraine is more common in boys than girls in pre-adolescent ages, but it affects women two to three times more than men.[5][6] Migraine can mostly decrease during pregnancy.[5] The causes of migraine are not fully known. It is also thought to be a neurovascular disorder.[7]
