Why Should I Go to Therapy?

Although thoughts about therapy have begun to change today, the sentences we hear frequently from those around us continue to persist. What will the psychologist do? How will my troubles go away when we talk? What can the psychologist tell me that I don't know? Am I crazy? You go to a psychologist etc. The prevalence of such thoughts continues to demotivate people experiencing difficulties to find solutions. Sometimes, people who decide to go to a therapist despite these statements may apply to people who do not have therapy training, and the belief that therapy is of no use becomes even stronger due to the disappointment created by the unpleasant experiences they have had. This situation causes an increase in the thoughts that it is not possible to get rid of the problem, and therefore causes the feeling of helplessness of the people experiencing the problem to continue to increase. However, we are stuck between the dream of having a magic wand in the hands of the therapist and the belief that such a thing cannot happen.

So why can't we solve our problems ourselves anymore?

Experiencing difficulties in solving problems actually stems from our spiritual need to find a solution. Our physiological and spiritual systems are always trying to protect us. However, in cases where it is not enough or there is overload, it tries to show that we need to change something by giving signals. We probably did not notice or ignored the small signals it gave before. For this reason, the signals become more disturbing and large enough to require effort to decipher. Moreover, problems cannot be solved within the thought system that created them and the environment that created them. The person who starts therapy first clarifies in his mind what the problem is and realizes how this problem developed. During the sessions, he begins to make connections about the reasons for the behavioral patterns that he unconsciously avoids and that he is not aware of or does not want to see, and that create distress in his life. Of course, it is important to work with experts who have therapy training in order to avoid disappointment and demotivation.

The most important thing to know is that you go to therapy once and all your problems disappear. It is not a painful method; the problem cannot be eliminated with a word from the therapist or with his incredible solution skills. During this process, your therapist helps you get out of the system that creates the problem. Changing this thought system and therefore the behavioral system that creates the problem will of course take time and will vary depending on the person's speed. We all know that sometimes even though we know what we need to do, it takes time to act. Therapy is a powerful tool for you to recognize and change these reasons that prevent change. We all have wounds and we are unlikely to resolve them on our own. The reason for this is not that we are not strong enough to handle it, but because we cannot realize the main source of the problem because it has occurred a long time ago.

For this reason, therapy is actually a tool that allows us to be liberated. We solve the problems we experience, not our therapist. However, in order to solve it, we must first see and realize it.
