Surgery to Remove Excess Fat (Liposuction)

Liposuction is the process of absorbing unwanted fat from the body by applying vacuum with very thin cannulas. The word meaning of Liposuction can be translated into Turkish as LIPO = fat, SUCTİON = to suck, that is, to absorb fat, to pull it.

In today's Liposuction technique, called the wet technique, a large amount of drug mixture is given to areas with excess fat. Thanks to the water entering between the fat cells, the cells can be pulled out more easily. Thus, the inflated area is shaped more easily and prevents any bleeding. In this way, more fat can be removed easily and without endangering the patient, without the need to donate blood etc. to the patients, as was the case with the dry technique in the past.

These are patients who have excess fat in areas that cannot be thinned with sports, diet, etc. Liposuction can be applied anywhere on the body. In women, it is often seen in the abdomen, waist, hips, hips, back, neck, legs and knees, and in men, in the breasts (gynecomastia) such as the abdomen and waist areas. By removing excess fat in these areas, the patient's body lines are improved and the patient looks more aesthetic and slimmer. . In fact, it is not a slimming method, but a shaping method.

Liposuction can be easily applied to women or men who are over puberty and do not have a systemic disease. The process is based on the principle of injecting liquid into the fatty areas, melting the fat and turning it into liquid, and withdrawing it with an injector or vacuum. Depending on the patient's preference, it can be performed under local or general anesthesia along with other aesthetic surgeries (e.g. breast augmentation, abdominoplasty, etc.). Commonly used terms such as Liposhaping, lipoline, liposoft are exactly the same technique. These are only used to attract patients by giving the impression that something new and different is being done.

Post-Surgery
Recovery and return to normal daily activities are surprisingly quick. Patients usually return to their normal lives on the same day or the next day. It does not require a hospital or clinic stay. They wear a tight stocking or corset for about 3-4 weeks, which is necessary to speed up recovery after the procedure. Bruises are much less in the wet technique than in the dry technique and disappear completely in 2-3 weeks. Pain is almost non-existent (very much in dry technique) and patients can only be treated where Liposuction is performed. They feel crushed or bruised pain when they press on them.

Risks
Contrary to popular belief, the risk of embolism is the same as in all other surgeries and is very rare. Patients sometimes experience temporary numbness in the application areas.

Obesity
Liposuction is not used in the treatment of obesity, but it is more effective if applied after the patient loses weight with diet and exercises.
