1.Men's aesthetics are different from women's aesthetics.
One of the most important purposes of aesthetic surgery is the desire of people to have an attractive appearance towards the opposite sex. You may say, "I have plastic surgery done for myself," and I have no objection to that, but it is not possible to distinguish the subconscious or subconscious desire to be beautiful from the desire for "attractiveness." In women, beauty is often equated with attractiveness; beautiful women are often found attractive by both their own and the opposite sex. This is not exactly the case with men. The attractiveness of men is not dependent on the condition of the face being "beautiful". When you look at many "iconic" male faces, it is possible to detect some features that are not beautiful or even clearly flawed. Exaggerated jaws, exaggerated skeletal lines, extremely low eyebrows, too short or too wide forehead, scars, imperfect noses, coarse beard, disheveled hair and others. Some of the most important elements of male attractiveness are the features that emphasize this "masculine" character on the face. You may not find an arched, big or long nose "beautiful", but making the noses of registered handsome people like Tom Cruise or Kenan İmirzalıoğlu more beautiful is more than enough to reset all charisma in men in seconds.
2. The principle of "not feminizing" the face
Facial rejuvenation surgeries on male patients have different goals and principles, but by far the most important of them is to preserve the masculine character of the male patient's face at all costs and to avoid making any changes that suggest femininity. is the principle of "non-feminization". The work done may be incomplete, ineffective, it may be said that I do not see much of a change, but it should never create a feminine expression. It would be useful to evaluate the following items in line with this principle.
3. The aging process is good for some men
During the aging process, some men turn into more "attractive" individuals. The angulation of the face, gaining expression, the hard and shadowy contours on the face, the deepening of the gaze, the expression brought about by facial wrinkles. A mature/experienced expression and gray hair/beard look good on some faces. Women who read this article will quickly understand what I am talking about. It is very important for male patients to determine the characteristics that suit them during the planning process and to guide them in preserving these characteristics.
4. A man's eyebrows are low
All handsome male figures have low eyebrows without exception. Point. For this reason, eyebrow lift surgeries in men should be performed for very limited indications and, if at all, in very conservative measures. While forehead lift/brow lift surgeries and facial rejuvenation are frequently performed in female patients, the situation is the opposite for men. One of the most important reasons for skin accumulation on the upper eyelid in male patients is that the already low eyebrows drop further, causing the skin normally located under the eyebrow to sag and appear as if it were on the upper eyelid. In male patients, when the skin on the upper eyelid is removed, the distance between the eyelashes and the eyebrow will shorten, so the eyebrow will drop a little more and the skin accumulation on the eyelid will recur in a short time. Typically, upper eyelid surgery in men opens/clears the upper eyelid to a level “below expectations.” The reason for this is that while we need to raise the eyebrow to get a clearer and clearer eyelid fold, we are hesitant to raise the eyebrow due to the "principle of not feminizing". Understanding the place of eyebrows in male aging and the limitations regarding eyebrows is very important for male candidates.
5. The apple is beautiful on the plate, not on the cheek
I have never been able to find full cheeks and soft cheek contours suitable for male patients. I think it is an aesthetic flaw, especially for a man over the age of 40, to have a full, high, "apple" cheeked face. For this reason, I do not recommend mid-face lift / mid-face fat injection / cheek filler surgeries to increase the fullness in this area to any of my patients. In male patients, in cases where the under-eye-to-cheek transition is very evident, prostheses placed on the bone and giving a more bony appearance to the face may be preferred in order to obtain a better appearance. Again Limited fat tissue transfers to this area may be an option to camouflage the under-cheek transition, but the goal should never be to plump the cheeks, especially the cheekbones.
6. The lower face and neck area are the primary target
The most important changes in the male face during the aging process occur in the lower half of the face and neck. The most important effect of this surgery is that it allows us to obtain a clearer and sharper jaw line and neck contour. In men, sagging in the lower face and neck makes the male face look tired and lacking in energy. What usually bothers patients the most is this perception of loss of dynamism. Lower face and neck lift surgery requires an incision that starts in front of the ear and continues along the hairline behind the ear. The most important handicap of the surgery for men is this incision scar. In patients who undergo neck surgery, it may be necessary to make an additional 3-4 cm incision under the chin. Through this incision, we can intervene very effectively in problems in the midline of the neck and also access the bone structure at the tip of the jaw. Especially men whose jawbone is lagging behind or underdeveloped are affected by lower face and neck aging at a much earlier age. For this reason, reviewing the bone support of the tip of the jaw during the planning phase can be the determinant of the difference between a good result and an average result.
7. Post-Surgery Camouflage Process
It is not possible for an individual who is not ready to camouflage the scars of facelift surgery to undergo this surgery. Women are lucky because when they let their hair down, the area around their ears is camouflaged. If they have a headscarf, everything is very comfortable anyway. They can use camouflaging make-up even in the early stages of recovery. In addition, scars can be camouflaged with accessories such as headbands and hats during the early healing period. This camouflage advantage allows female patients to return to work and social life in a short period of time, almost 10-14 days. For men, the situation is a little more complicated. Most of my patients can camouflage the scar in front of their ear by growing their beard. After the surgery, you should not choose very short hairstyles to camouflage the area behind the ear and sideburns. The beard scars will fade after about 3 months. It can be cut with At this stage, reactions such as "you have become younger when the beard is gone" are received from the environment, and the perceived change in the face is attributed to the cutting of the beard rather than surgery. If growing a beard is not an option for you, then you can use cosmetic concealer cream/foundation.
8. Reconstruction of the beard line
On the male face, there is a 1-1.5cm beardless strip between the bearded skin and the ear. During facelift surgery, this strip is disrupted and the bearded skin comes abnormally close to the ear. It may be necessary to reconstruct this beardless strip by applying laser epilation to this area around the 3rd month of the surgery.
9. Pay close attention to the lower eyelid
Lower eyelid surgery is one of the surgeries with the highest complication rate in facial aesthetics. In short, after surgery, the lower eyelid can pull down and turn outward. It is a disgraceful situation. Patients cannot go out in public for months. Plastic surgery scientific literature has researched for many years how the complications of this surgery can be prevented and developed reasonable solutions. In female patients, we routinely tighten the outer edge of the lower eyelid by fixing it to the bone. This procedure is called lateral canthopexy. Lateral canthopexy creates a slanted appearance in the eye. The slanting appearance continues for 6-12 weeks. Slight slanting is not much of a problem in female patients. It can even be a source of joy just because I have almond eyes. In men, this type of shrinkage that lasts for such a long time is a physical symptom that is very difficult to tolerate. Another approach to prevent lower eyelid complications is to lift the midface area and support the lower eyelid from below with the cheek tissue. This procedure is very difficult to tolerate in male patients as it causes the appearance of filled cheeks. Due to these limitations, classical lower blepharoplasty, which aims to eliminate excess skin in male patients, is very risky, especially after the age of 50. For male patients, the logical approach is to settle for minimal changes, especially in the aesthetics around the eyes, and stay on the safe side.
10. Gentlemen, you are not alone.
All patients who applied to me for facial rejuvenation said "n You can feel the anxiety of "Am I going outside the box?" For this reason, it is even more important to connect male patients with other patients who have gone through the same path as them.
