Do you ever feel hungry when you watch cooking programs in front of the TV in the evening, even though you have just woken up from eating?
Smoky grilled meats, snacks that look crispy, fruits and vegetables that delight with their colors and soft chocolate desserts... We often encounter such paintings in Masterchef Turkey, one of the most watched programs of recent times. Why do we feel hungry in the face of such an image, even though we have just eaten or even though we know that you are actually full?
There is an answer to this question in nutritional science! Its name is 'cephalic phase'. Cephalic phase; It is a phase that can occur with the sight of food, perception of its smell and taste, or even with the thought of food, and increases gastric secretions.
In short, when we see an attractive meal in a cooking program, smell hot bread while passing by a bakery, or taste a food we like very much. With this phase that comes into play while thinking, our digestive system is activated and the hormones and enzymes secreted from the stomach make us hungry and direct us to eating behavior.
This situation is a natural part of the human physiological system and cannot be changed. So what can we do in this situation?
The first and easiest method is to chew gum. By chewing gum, which has no calories, we suppress our desire to eat. Again, by consuming products such as cucumber, which are low in calories, we provide stomach saturation by sending nutrients to our stomach and maintain our weight by consuming fewer calories. Of course, another of the healthiest methods is to turn off your television and go for a walk in the fresh air. If we cannot control ourselves and eat, we should be careful to chew the food we eat for a long time and eat slowly. The time it takes for the satiety hormone to reach the brain and create a satiety signal is more than 20 minutes. The slower we eat during this period, the fewer calories we will consume before our saturation signal occurs. There is another most surprising method, and that is to use blue plates. Blue is a color that suppresses our appetite.
If you cannot control your eating, you can get help from a psychologist, and if your weight gain is progressing to the point of harming your health, you can get help from your dietician.
