What is Headache? How Much Should It Be Considered?

Pain is actually the result of a physiological, concretely demonstrable, neurological process. Yes, pain is a perception that occurs as a result of the disorder of a sequential process. Therefore, disruption at any level of the nervous system can cause pain. For this reason, each pain should be evaluated considering that it may be due to a different cause and intervention should be made accordingly.

Headache is the most common neurological disease group. If you do not go to the doctor, the causes that will not cause a problem are at one end, and the causes that may be life-threatening are at the other end. Fortunately, benign causes of headache are more common. However, we must first examine the existence of a dangerous situation in order to prevent or even cause irreversible, negative consequences. In fact, the main features that determine the different approach in people with headaches are; The character of the headache, its course over time, whether there is any other accompanying condition, and ultimately the patient's neurological examination findings. At this stage, necessary diagnostic tests may be requested in the light of the history and examination findings. Almost every person has experienced a headache more than once in his or her life. For this reason, both our own experiences and those of the people around us are important to us. A wrong perception is that in the presence of a headache, a brain imaging (especially MRI) is requested immediately. Numerous applications are made to healthcare institutions for this reason alone. However, brain MRI is just a photo of the brain, and even if this photo is normal, it will vary between individuals. The patient's complaint and examination findings will determine whether these changes have a clinical response.

Migraine is the most common headache disease in society. So it is a cause of headache, not the only cause of headache. It is also a disease that we know best because it is the most common. It is most often seen in young women, but this does not mean that it cannot be seen in men. The most prominent features of the disease are; A throbbing headache may occur in attacks, may be present in half or the entire head, nausea and The presence of usma is the discomfort felt by light and sound during pain. There is no need for any examination to diagnose migraine, the diagnosis is made based on the patient's history and examination findings, but sometimes laboratory tests may be required to exclude the presence of another condition.

Situations that determine the treatment to be applied after migraine diagnosis; Whether the patient is in an attack or not and requires regular treatment. However, no matter how it is treated, it should be explained to the patient that migraine is a chronic disease with a genetic origin, and treatment expectations should be arranged accordingly. The main goal of treatment is to minimize the frequency and severity of the patient's pain and prevent the deterioration in quality of life. However, the patient should be informed about the changes in migraine headache over time. Tension-type headache is also a common headache, as well as migraine. Although the reason is not fully understood, it is thought that the most likely situation is the presence of a decrease in the person's pain threshold. Any physical or psychological situation that would not normally cause pain causes pain in these people due to the decrease in pain threshold. The tension in its name causes the wrong perception that this pain is only psychological. The presence of stress or psychological conditions may facilitate or even trigger the formation of pain, but it is not the only cause.

In summary, headache is not a disease in itself, but a group of diseases. The reasons leading to this should be evaluated from good to bad and appropriate steps should be taken.
