In psychology, fixation is a behavior that allows the individual to achieve pleasure in the early development phase, remaining in the later stages of life.
Fixations that may arise in the individual due to the negativities experienced in the oral period, which is the first phase of the psychosexual theory, are also affected by the outside world when the baby first comes into the world. The caregiver's support is very important because he or she is dependent and cannot meet his or her needs on his or her own. In particular, feeding the baby from the mother not only satisfies the baby's physical urges but also helps in gaining the sense of confidence that will form the basis of his personality.
At the age of 0-1, the baby does not have the concept of objects, the baby sees himself as a part of the world of objects, his priority is to satisfy his impulses. And to get to know the world, he uses the mouth. When a 0-1 year old baby is given an object, he or she will first tend to take it to his or her mouth.
The human tendency to escape from pain and achieve pleasure tries to relieve the tension created by the baby's urge to get hungry, with the help of the mother's breast. When he experiences physical tension, he expresses it by crying. and the baby is dependent on the outside. Breastfeeding is the most intense period between mother and baby. The building blocks of the baby's ego development are determined by the way the mother or caregiver greets him/her. the mother acts as the auxiliary ego. The positive mental state of the mother and caregiver is effective in preventing the baby's neurosis or psychopathology from occurring in the future. Getting more or less of the mother's breast, which is the source of pleasure, affects the health of the baby in the following years. When the individual who is stuck in this period cannot compensate for this correctly, he cannot make healthy progress in the next developmental stage.
Baby. Between the ages of 0 and 1, the baby tries to understand whether the world is a safe place. Keeping the baby away from the object of pleasure or not moving away from it at all affects the baby's attachment style. When the baby is in tension, the object that can most effectively keep him/her away from tension is the pleasure object. Early withdrawal from the pleasure object or excessive exposure to breastfeeding causes the individual to acquire behaviors such as being tense, passive, insecure and insecure. Disruptions in this period affect situations such as partner selection and cigarette addiction in adulthood. The foundation of the feeling of confidence begins in this period. When the gains are not completed in this period, Stabbing occurs. The earlier this fixation occurs, the greater the damage it leaves on the person and the more difficult it is to compensate. If the baby is exposed to violence between the ages of 0 and 1 and the pleasure is rejected with a negative reaction, it may cause psychopathology in the future. The mother's health and joy of life is an important factor that will nourish the baby. The loss of the object of love in this period causes melancholy to occur, and this depressive emotional state that may occur can lead to suicide. It may cause a decrease in self-perception, people may see themselves as worthless, unsuccessful, they may punish themselves, they may turn into individuals who do not love themselves, lack of love may cause anger or turn inward. sexual abuse crimes, connection with fixation in the oral period, deprivation of the object of love, insufficient satisfaction of oral pleasure, the mother's psychopathological approach agreement may affect the baby, the individual, and may lead to negative emotional states in the future, and may change direction as anger, abuse or emotional and behavior.
