CIRCUMCISION IN CHILDREN

The ideal age for circumcision is 6 years old and around. You can have our children circumcised under the age of 6. In general, try not to exceed the age of 6-7. As children reach the age of 7, they can develop more fear. They have more fear and experience regarding this issue. You are the most important center point to prevent them from being further affected by such fears. If you are angry, tense, distressed, they will be affected by this situation. This influence will turn into fear. The mother's reaction is very important in the family. Being comfortable, confident and peaceful will put the child at ease. Sometimes families get so caught up in the wedding preparations that they fail to see the child's excitement, fear and distress. The most important thing here is the child's fear, anxiety and concern. It is necessary to recognize this anxiety and reassure the child about this concern. If this relief is not given in time, the child's existing fear may increase further. As the fear becomes very intense, psychological support may be requested regarding this issue. The second difficulty regarding circumcision is that if there are two children in the family and the other is a girl, they may be affected by the gifts received for circumcision, festivals and weddings. The girl child is affected by this situation, and as a result of this effect, she may speak and behave that will upset the circumcised child. In order to prevent this situation and to ensure that there is no discrimination between children, care should be taken, this situation should be explained to the other child and gifts should be bought for him/her as well. The gifts of the two children must be balanced. In another problem, if one child's circumcision is different than the other, this time the other child may be affected by this situation. If circumcision is postponed to older ages due to economic reasons, the child may develop embarrassment. In rare cases, at circumcision ceremonies, elders take part in a ceremony suitable for them. Having fun or drinking excessive alcohol can frighten the child. The purpose of the wedding should be to entertain the child. Research shows that children begin to stutter after circumcision. Here, fear during circumcision may be a factor in stuttering. Rituals such as sacrificing an animal during circumcision and smearing the blood of the victim on the child's forehead can also frighten children. Again, it is harmful for children for both the circumcised child and other children to stay awake until late at night for the wedding. Care and dressings after circumcision can frighten the child. Brief, concise information about circumcision, what to do during circumcision, and post-circumcision dressings should be given to children in a way that the child can understand. Talk to your child about circumcision. Let him know that you are on his side. Even tell about your own circumcision and your brother's circumcision. If you were afraid during the circumcision, explain that you were afraid. Explain that it is about growing up. Do not make statements that will confuse the child such as 'But now you have become a man, you have become a man, you have taken on responsibilities', stay calm, touch the child, hug him and do not lie. Explain what will happen. Be there if there is a special situation. Then be sure to explain how the incident was resolved. If the circumcision will take place in the hospital, take the child to the hospital one day before and introduce him to the doctor who will perform the circumcision at the hospital. Introduce the tools to be used for circumcision to the child and show him the operating room. This process will reduce his fear. Explain that you, as a parent, are more excited than your child, just like him/her.
