Knee Calcification -Gonarthrosis-

Introduction

There are three basic types of arthritis that affect the knee joint;

It is the most common type. It is a degenerative disease that gradually erodes joint cartilage. It most commonly affects middle and older age people.

It is an inflammatory disease that causes damage to the joint cartilage. It can be seen at any age and usually affects many joints.

Posttraumatic arthritis occurs after a knee injury. This type of arthritis is similar to osteoarthritis and occurs after meniscus and ligament injury.

The pain initially starts as mild and gradually increases with increasing wear. The joint is swollen and movements are limited. It may be difficult to bend or extend the knee.

Pain increases with activity, such as climbing stairs, walking, or bending the knee. There is a feeling of locking, weakness and spraining in the knee.
Some patients show that the degree of pain is affected by weather changes.

Doctor's Examination

Your doctor will examine your knee joint range of motion, gait. It will check whether there is any deformity or swelling in the joint. X-ray usually shows the narrowing in the joint space and is sufficient. MRI may often be requested in the differential diagnosis of other diseases.
In the x-ray below, a normal knee is seen on the left and a severely calcified knee is seen on the right;
