Waist slip surgery is performed as open surgery by the majority of surgeons in the world and in Turkey, and is therefore considered a highly invasive procedure.
However, with the developments in biomedical engineering and the increase in surgical experience in recent years. Nowadays, closed (percutaneous) lumbar slip surgery has become possible. Thanks to this technique called Minimally Invasive TLIF (MINI-TLIF), waist slip surgery has become a surgery in which there is almost no bleeding, a minimal skin incision is made, muscle tissue is almost not touched, and a minimal amount of bone tissue is removed.
Closed lumbar slip surgery is performed under general anesthesia and under imaging guidance. A skin incision of approximately 3 cm is made. The bone structure is reached between the fascia of two muscles without damaging the muscle tissue. After a minimal amount of bone is removed, the disc space is completely cleaned and a cage called TLIF cage and bone graft are placed in this space. The cage is placed to maintain the height of the disc space, and the bone graft is placed to fuse the two vertebrae together. Then, screws and screw fixing rods are placed on both sides percutaneously (closed) under imaging methods. The duration of closed lumbar slip surgery is 2-2.5 hours and the hospital stay is 2 days. The patient does not take the risk of anesthesia and can be discharged on the same day. Since there is minimal damage to normal anatomical tissues, the patient's return to active life is much shorter. .
