1-)  Personality structure and common features:

 

Girls who do not want to grow up, have a childish personality, and are dependent on their parents are at risk of vaginismus in later ages.

Saying "My dear is sweet" Women who think and have different fears (such as fear of needles, blood, dentists, cats, dogs, insects, heights)

Those who are raised as the good girls of the family ('Good girl syndrome')

Those who were raised away from sexuality ('Tomboy model')

Those who were extremely influenced by the events they experienced. For example, those who experience the effects of a movie scene or a tragic event for a long time.

Those who have little sexual knowledge and experience.

Vaginismus is a problem that concerns every segment of society. However, it is an interesting finding that 80% of the patients treated in our institution are at least high school graduates.

 

Again, according to our own studies, vaginismus in rural areas is generally seen as a result of lack of knowledge and the problem can be solved more quickly with cognitive therapies.

 

Good girl. What is the syndrome?

Vaginismus, sexual reluctance, sexual disgust and inability to orgasm frequently occur in later ages in "good girls" who were raised by their parents without giving them any sexual information and with messages about ignoring or denigrating sexuality. This problem, which is very common in Turkish society and develops in girls who are raised by their environment and families in this way, is called "being a good girl syndrome." It is accepted as a duty to satisfy. According to our observations from thousands of patients as an institution, good girls are perfectionists, have a lot of internal discipline and a meticulous nature. Being a good girl syndrome is among the risk factors for vaginismus.

 

2) Family structure:

Family structure is also important in terms of risk factors for vaginismus:

 

Those whose own families are extremely protective and protective

Those whose parents are dominant

Those whose parents are both oppressive and conservative

Those who were raised by other members of the family instead of their mother and father (especially those who experienced pressure from their grandparents) are in the risk group for vaginismus.

3) Fears of pregnancy:

Traditional or Religiously educated people or women who are single but are trying sexual intercourse with their boyfriend/fiancé may face the problem of vaginismus due to their fear of getting pregnant and subsequently having an abortion.

 

4 )  Traditional and / or religious pressures:

In traditional environments where sexual views are extremely strict and rule-abiding, and especially those who received strict religious education in childhood, they are also among the risk factors for vaginismus in their later ages.
