How is Laser Hemorrhoid Surgery Performed?

This is because almost all of the patients who come for examination for Laser Hemorrhoid surgery suffer from complaints.

In our society, the idea that "hemorrhoids that do not cause complaints do not require treatment" is more common.

Hemorrhoid complaints vary according to their degree and complication status.

Frequency of Hemorrhoids in the Society

Unfortunately, a simple pain sometimes occurs in society. And bleeding from the anal area once or twice a month is considered almost normal. There is not even a need for examination for these complaints. Therefore, most of the patients who request examination are diagnosed with either advanced hemorrhoid disease or complications such as infection and clotting. However, 1st, 2nd and sometimes even 3rd degree hemorrhoids may not cause any pain.

Do patients have justified excuses?

A few reasons can be listed for patients who hesitate and postpone the examination. Most patients say

As a physician, it is of course difficult to refute these excuses one by one and clear all the question marks in the minds of the patients, but I would like to say the following in summary to the patients I can reach in general and who read my article:

Hemorrhoids are like an iceberg

In the title of my article As I explained, we can actually compare hemorrhoids to an iceberg; patients can only notice the tip of the iceberg. However, the real disease is in the anal area, that is, the inner part of the intestines. However, the physician may do this through rectoscopy, colonoscopy, or surgery. You can see it while on the yacht. Therefore, yes, Hemorrhoids are like an Iceberg!

Information about Laser Hemorrhoid surgery, Laser Proctology

Especially in recent years, a very common concept called "Laser Hemorrhoid Treatment" has developed in society. The name of the department that treats perianal and anorectal diseases is laser proctology. With this method, laser is applied to the root of the veins to which the hemorrhoid nozzles are connected through a special needle.

In this way, the vessels are closed, causing the hemorrhoid nozzle to shrink and disappear, and bleeding to be quickly controlled. Since the laser method is a new method, it is difficult to achieve the same success rate in every center, but when performed by an experienced physician, the success rate is almost at the same level as the surgical method.

How is Laser Hemorrhoid surgery performed?

Laser Hemorrhoid Treatment can be performed as a day procedure and the patient can be discharged on the same day or the next day. The type of anesthesia to be applied for the procedure may be general, spinal or local.

In cases accompanied by advanced hemorrhoids or anal fistula, waist anesthesia (i.e. SP spinal anesthesia) is preferred. In uncomplicated hemorrhoid cases, it can be done by anesthetizing only the anal area (i.e. LA local anesthesia).

After the anesthesia phase, the patient is placed in the gynecological or lithotomy position (in cases performed with local anesthesia, the position is given first). After the surgery area is painted with antiseptic solution (paticon, betadine, etc.), sterile clean covers are covered.

With the help of an instrument (anoscope) that will visualize the internal structure of the anus area, hemorrhoids and anal fissure and fistula formations, if any, are examined again. is reviewed. Then, the laser needle is advanced towards the root of the hemorrhoid nozzles and laser pulses are applied.

In anal fistulas, the fistula channel is first detected with a colored solution (methylene blue). Then, with the help of a stylet, the fistula channel and the internal and external orifices of the fistula are detected. Then, the fistula channel is cleaned with a special brush and washed with physiological saline (SF). Special laser tips are pulled from the fistula channel and shots are made and the fistula channel is obliterated. All this i Tissues are not cut or stitched during the procedure.

After the procedure is completed, the patient is taken to his room to rest. The patient can start eating and drinking 30 minutes after the procedure. Breastfeeding mothers can continue breastfeeding. In procedures performed with local anesthesia, the patient can return home after 2-3 hours. In spinal anesthesia procedures, the patient can return home after 5-6 hours or the next day. The patient can continue his normal life one day after the procedure. You can walk, take a bath, drive a car, go to work.

Special and sensitive laser tips are used in these surgeries instead of scalpels, scissors, cautery tools and other instruments used in traditional hemorrhoid surgeries. Diseased tissues are cut with minimal damage, and vessels causing bleeding are burned and closed with minimal damage to surrounding tissues. This procedure is faster and more specific than the traditional surgical method. (Hemorrhoidopexy)

Both the traditional surgical method and laser treatment are considered hemorrhoidectomy. By eliminating hemorrhoid nozzles (packs) during both procedures, the chances of recurrence are greatly reduced. Both procedures can be performed in a clinic, surgery center, or hospital operating room.

Laser Hemorrhoid Complications

Of course, any surgery has risks. Especially in hemorrhoid surgeries, there is always a risk of post-operative pain, bleeding and infection. This complication is at its lowest level in laser treatment.
