MASTALGIA (BREAST PAIN)

MASTALGIA (BREAST PAIN)

“Mastalgia” describes pain arising from breast tissue. Although mastalgia (breast pain) is one of the leading complaints of women who consult doctors with breast-related complaints, it is still a symptom that is not well recognized.

The complaint of mastalgia creates anxiety in the patient. In most patients, explaining that there is no organic pathology that would cause breast pain (which means excluding breast cancer, which is the most feared condition!) is sufficient to eliminate the complaint of mastalgia. Mastalgia is seen in 70% of women of reproductive age at some point in their lives. 50% of patients applying to Breast Clinics complain of mastalgia. Ultimately, only 0.5% of patients with mastalgia experience neoplasia.

85% of patients It does not require any special treatment. Only 15% of patients are seriously affected and use medication. Cyclic mastalgia was detected in 2/3 of these patients and non-cyclic mastalgia in 1/3

Cyclic 70% (Cyclic)

Non-cyclic 30% (Non-cyclical)

Cyclic mastalgia;

•Bilateral or unilateral
•Symmetrical or asymmetrical
•Localized to the upper outer quadrants – migratory

•Spreading to the armpit< br /> •Blunt – sharp
•Creating a feeling of swelling in the breast
•With an increase in nodularity
•It may be accompanied by cysts on physical examination and US.

A small group Mastalgia in the patient is severe, it may continue even if it is determined that breast cancer is not present and the patient is informed, and may require psychiatric evaluation

Serious and persistent mastalgia requires treatment, this is quite rare.

There is a small difference between mastalgia and lifestyle. But there are some important connections. These include smoking, caffeine intake and stress

Mastalgia is often a It does not depend on the “disease”

• It cannot be “treated”

• The patient's complaints should be eliminated and the quality of life should be improved

Misconceptions that are known to be true!!!

“Breast pain is psychological”

“If the breast hurts, there is no cancer”

“If the breast hurts, you should not consult a doctor”
