Being a Parent of Twins

Twin Parents Who Think They Are Unfair to the Other While Caring for One

Twin babies are different individuals who share the same world from the womb. Even in the womb, one may be calmer while the other is more active. Being a twin is both an interesting situation and a special bond. But this bond does not mean that they are each other's spouse. Parents and other people in their lives need to remember that they are different individuals and act accordingly.

Treating both babies equally is a major obstacle to their struggle for individualization.

Because they, like other siblings, may have different needs at different times. As parents, seeing them as two parts of a whole will have a negative impact on the adventure of forming their own personalities.

One of the most important features that distinguish us from other individuals is our name. Therefore, the first step in the individualization of twins is to use their names instead of addressing them with general definitions or adjectives. Dressing them in the same clothes thinking they look cute and having similar hairstyles will make it difficult for other people to tell them apart, so the second big step is to accept that they are different individuals and dress them differently.

The general opinion of experts is that twins should be educated in separate classes. But since it will be difficult to separate twins, who were inseparable from each other during infancy and nursery periods and did everything together, when they reach school age, this needs to be taken into consideration from the very beginning of the process. For this reason, parents need to remember that they do not have to be side by side in every environment and all the time. You should allow them to spend time in different environments, play with different toys or watch different cartoons. When you start to discover the interests and desires of each of them, you will see that you will do this more easily.

One of the other important points is not to compare the twins with each other. In fact, this is valid not only for twin babies but for all people. Which of us wants to be compared to another? Therefore, while supporting them individually in areas where they are successful, You should stop comparing yourself with your twin.

As in every sibling relationship, feelings of jealousy and competition may be felt between twins. The important thing to be careful about here is not to allow one side to dominate and crush the other. Apart from that, it is necessary not to intervene in the problems between them as long as they do not harm each other, because it will not be a healthy behavior to get angry or punish both of them at the same time.

The first reactions of mothers and fathers when they hear that they are going to have twins are astonishment. Even though it is panic and fear, it is a very special feeling despite all its difficulties. Raising twins can be a difficult process, both psychologically, financially and physiologically, as it means raising two children at the same time. For this reason, it is extremely important for spouses to share responsibilities.
