The nose is the structure that attracts the most attention and determines the beauty value as it is at the center of the face. When we meet a person, the nose is the area we look at most after the eyes. Although noses reflect the characteristics of a person's family, "beautiful nose" norms have emerged over time, especially for the white race. The media and society have adopted them so much that people of other races (black, Asian, Middle Eastern, Mediterranean, Hispanic) now want noses similar to the nose of the "white" race. However, the truth is that the nose that will naturally suit everyone's face is different. Naturalness should be the goal within certain patterns. It is not realistic or healthy to want the shape of someone else's nose for your own face.
Aesthetic nose surgery, that is, changing the shape and size of the nose, is one of the most frequently performed surgeries in our society. Before surgery, the doctor must evaluate the patient in terms of both aesthetics and breathing function. Often people also have breathing problems. If these are not evaluated beforehand and necessary precautions are not taken, they may occur or increase after surgery. Surgical interventions that will improve breathing can also be performed during plastic surgery.
Before the surgery, the plastic surgeon evaluates the harmony of the nose to the face, what the patient wants and what procedures will be performed during the surgery. The surgery is performed under general anesthesia with an "open" or "closed" technique, depending on the surgeon's preference. In the open technique, the nose is accessed through a small incision where the nasal skin meets the upper lip. In the closed technique, incisions are made inside the nose. The open technique is used in more difficult noses and when extensive surgery is required. Open technique is now used 90% of the time in the world. Depending on the need, the surgeon removes the arches from the nose, narrows the nose, lifts its tip and ensures that it sits properly in the midline. When necessary, the inside of the nose is reinforced with cartilages taken from the ear or rib.
In the post-operative period, silicone tampons remain in the nose for 1 week. Gas tampons, which used to be a nightmare for patients, have been abandoned and there is no pain when removing the tampons. Patients return to their normal lives within 1 week.
Nose surgery Although it is a very common and frequently performed surgery in our country, it is a surgery that requires a lot of technique and experience. Errors are very difficult to treat when the first surgery is not successful. Therefore, the surgery must be performed in the right hands. The basis of patient satisfaction and the doctor's success is that the patient and the plastic surgeon understand each other very well in the decision and implementation of the surgery and that the aim is to achieve a "natural nose" shape that realistically suits the face.
