TOOTH SENSITIVITY

What does tooth sensitivity mean?

When hot, cold, sugary or sour foods and drinks are taken into the mouth, a sudden reaction and tingling may occur in the teeth and pain begins. This toothache is sharp, sudden and deep (this condition is also popularly called toothache).
Apart from decay and old fillings, sensitivity is mostly caused by root surfaces exposed by gum recession.
Normally, dentin (the second and important layer of the tooth) is surrounded by enamel and cementum (the special layer that covers the root surface). Tooth sensitivity is transmitted to the nerve of the tooth through micron-level canals (dentinal tubules).

Factors that cause tooth sensitivity:
•    hard and traumatic tooth brushing (over time, enamel and
•    gum recession
•    gum disease (swollen and inflamed gums also cause sensitivity)
•    broken teeth
•    teeth grinding - clenching
•    plaque accumulation

Is there anything that can be done at home against sensitivity?
•    oral hygiene should be paid attention to. (you should carefully clean every part of your teeth and mouth)
•    a soft bristle brush can be used. (less damage is caused to the hard layers of the tooth)
•    special toothpaste (effective results can be obtained when used regularly)
•    care should be taken with the foods consumed. (the enamel layer may dissolve as a result of frequent consumption of foods containing too much acid)
•    fluoridated dental care products should be used

What is the professional approach on this issue?
•    revealed root surfaces are isolated
•    root surfaces are healed with fluoride varnishes
•    restorations can be made with filling materials to replace the missing layers of the tooth.
