Being a Woman in the Shadow of Violence!

The point we have reached is that many women are exposed to violence today, and moreover, we are used to hearing about femicide and we have difficulty in fighting against it. If we consider that having a female gender is included in the concept of being a minority all over the world, the struggle of women throughout history for their rights and social place is noteworthy. We know that expectations are created. In other words, we see that the gender distinction created by society is much more comprehensive than the distinction created by genetics. At this point, the role given to women is that of being weaker, passive, in need of care and defense, and deprived of some rights. The right of a woman, who will be a wife to a husband and a mother to her children, is left to the man in patriarchal societies, her expectations from life, her feelings and thoughts are thrown back, her duties and what she has to do are determined, and she is taught that if she does not comply with these duties and rules, she will jeopardize the position she should have towards her family and her man. . If we look at the historical dimension, for years in different cultures, women were accused of witchcraft, murdered, sold as slaves, and they had to exert more power to protect their individual rights. Likewise, in Greek mythology, women who endanger the existence and power of men are depicted and it is explained that these women are punished when necessary. The existence of oppression, all kinds of ill-treatment and violence that make women's lives difficult in different societies and times endangers the existence of society as well as women. Unfortunately, violence against women is one of our bleeding wounds...

Not a day goes by without us receiving new news on this subject. Sometimes we receive this news of violence from the media, sometimes from our closest ones, and sometimes we even experience violence ourselves. What I'm talking about here is not only physical violence, but also psychological, sexual and verbal violence. Many women, who are already labeled as passive, helpless and helpless, do not know what to do when exposed to violence; sometimes they choose to hide it in shame, and sometimes they are forced to tolerate it by those around them. It is said that it is necessary. In this process, which is tried to be normalized by saying "A woman's place is with her man" and "Isn't it my husband, he loves and beats both", the existence of women's individual rights is ignored and the worst part is They are trying to impose on women that they deserve oppression and violence.
Women who are harassed or raped are labeled as "wagging their tails" and "seducing". The woman, who was made a criminal, tries to find the answer to the question "What was she doing outside alone at that time?". In short, they are trying to devalue women. Society does this to women.
Not only men, but also women are involved in this devaluation process.
Gender discrimination is one of the most important reasons for violence against women... We need fundamental changes to prevent this. Education comes first among these. This education, which begins in the family, should continue at school. It should be taught that being a man or a woman is a process of learning to be an individual. Our children should be told that the real weakness and helplessness is resorting to all kinds of violence. Instead of gender discrimination, parents should show how to love people with their differences. Let's not forget that differences make our lives colorful. Let's add value to our humanity. Best regards…
