What is Premenstrual Syndrome?
Premenstrual syndrome (PMS) is a condition that affects a woman's emotions, physical health and behavior on certain days of the menstrual cycle, usually just before her periods. Almost every woman experiences symptoms such as fatigue, irritability, overeating and depression during the premenstrual period.
It is estimated that 3 out of every four menstruating women experience some kind of premenstrual syndrome. Symptoms tend to recur in a predictable pattern.
PMS symptoms begin 5 to 11 days before menstruation and typically go away once menstruation begins. The cause of PMS is unknown. However, many researchers believe it is related to a change in the levels of both estrogen and progesterone
hormones and serotonin at the beginning of the menstrual cycle.
For some, the physical pain and emotional stress are enough to interfere with their daily lives. It is severe. Regardless of symptom severity, signs and symptoms usually disappear within four days of the start of the menstrual period for most women.
Since Premenstrual Syndrome and Menstrual Disorders are fully functional, they are easy to treat with ear acupuncture. Ear acupuncture leads to relief of symptoms in most cases.
Premenstrual syndrome (PMS) is associated with progesterone deficiency. Estrogen levels are usually normal. In laboratory tests, the progesterone level is assumed to be 10% of the estrogen level.
Hormonal balance is achieved by needling the Progesterone Point.
The Uterus Point is energetically weak and this should also be treated. Three hormone points should be pinned. These are the estrogen point, progesterone point and gonadotropin point.
The uterus point should be pricked, especially if there are serious and severe cramps during menstruation.
SI-3 (=Retro-Celiac Plexus point) in the right ear is pricked as the spasmolytic point. Also, Liv-3 (=Anger Point) is needled.
As psychotropic points, Master Omega point and depression point are also needled.
GB-26, UB-30, Ren-1, 2 in the treatment of menstruation. Body acupuncture points such as , 3, 7, St-25, 29 can be used.
PREMENOPAUSE AND ESTROGEN DEMANDANCE
One word The hormonal changes that occur between the mid-30s and mid-50s of women are quite different from the changes that occur near menopause.
Perimenopause refers to the beginning year or two years before menopause, when estrogen, progesterone and testosterone levels decrease while menstrual cycles become rarer.
Premenopause refers to hormonal changes that can begin in the mid-30s and up to 20 years before menopause.
The hormonal cycles of many women in their 20s and 30s function perfectly. Hormonal changes can begin as early as a woman's mid-30s. Some women may begin to experience anovulatory menstrual periods, in which the ovaries stop releasing eggs every few weeks and no progesterone is produced to offset the effects of estrogen. Enough estrogen is produced to replenish the uterine lining and menstruation still continues, but there is a deviation in the ratio of estrogen to progesterone in this cycle. This creates a state of estrogen dominance. Estrogen levels do not have to be very high and may even be lower than optimal, but without the natural balancing effect of progesterone, the effect of estrogen is greater.
Ovulatory cycles also tend to produce less progesterone. A woman with estrogen dominance may experience worsening PMS (premenstrual syndrome), difficult or irregular menstruations, turbulent mood, confusion, fat in the abdomen and hips, headache, bloating, edema, chronic facial redness, anxiety, depression, fatigue, sudden are more likely to experience worsening allergies, asthma, skin problems, and sinus congestion.
Non-ovulation periods are not the only factor in estrogen dominance. Being overweight or obese increases estrogen production (fat cells produce estrogen). Changes in cortisol, insulin and adrenaline resulting from chronic stress will also change the hormone balance towards estrogen dominance.
Chronic stress and adrenal fatigue are the causes of low progesterone levels in women in their 40s. It is one of the reasons.
Menopause
Menopause is the permanent cessation of menstruation following the loss of ovulation, followed by a menstrual-free period of at least 12 months. Premenopause is the transition period that occurs just before natural menopause, lasting at least 6 years, when changes begin, and is characterized by irregularity in the menstrual cycle.
Some of the symptoms are as follows;
Cease to menstruate after menstrual irregularity, hot flashes, weakness in the urinary tract, vagina and surrounding tissues, and volume loss, osteoporosis (bone loss) and cardiovascular diseases due to long-term deficiency of estrogen.
What is the role of acupuncture in menopause treatment?
Acupuncture in the treatment of menopause and premenopausal syndrome increases estrogen synthesis in the fat tissue and liver. Thus, it reduces the occurrence of symptoms caused by estrogen deficiency.
Physiology of Menopause
The loss of ovarian follicles leads to a slow decrease in ovarian hormone production, which This condition results in the cessation of menstruation and loss of the ability to have children. FSH is measured as >40. Body changes such as weight gain, skin and hair changes, dry eye syndrome, vaginal dryness, and bone loss are observed.
Purpose in Menopause Treatment
Complaints related to menopause (hot flushes, sweating, palpitations, sleep disturbance, distraction, sexual reluctance), osteoporosis, cardiovascular diseases (coronary heart disease, strokes, venous thrombo embolism (VTE)), diabetes mellitus, mood, depression, lack of cognition and dementia.
In treatment with ear acupuncture
Hormone points such as estrogen, progesterone and gonadotropin points are pricked. Diazepam (=Valium) which stabilizes the autonomic nervous system. Analog points, Spleen Point and Hypothalamus are needled.
UB-31 and Ren-7 can be used as body acupuncture in the treatment of menopause.
