CAUSES OF HORRORS
1.Acute laryngitis:
It develops suddenly. It occurs due to microbial inflammation of the vocal cord. It is treated with antibiotics, steams and anti-edema medications.
2. Chronic laryngitis:
It is a condition in which hoarseness lasts longer than 3-4 weeks.
It usually occurs as a result of chemical or physical irritation on the vocal cords.
Chemical irritation occurs when the stomach contents reflux, that is, acid secretion reaches the mouth and reaches the vocal cords.
Treatment includes correction of reflux.
Physically occurring vocal cords. The irritation is the misuse of the voice. In other words, talking too loudly, shouting, crying loudly etc.
Treatment includes reducing talking, never shouting, and speaking in a light tone of voice.
3. Causes of Dysphonia:
Failure to develop the vocal cords sufficiently. Like mutational falsetto. Your vocal cords are tense, but they cannot fully meet. Its treatment is voice therapy.
3. Larynx Tumors:
Vocal Cord and Larynx Tumors and Cancers.
It is especially seen in smokers. It used to be known only as a male disease.
However, with the increase in smoking among women in recent years, it has started to be seen in women as well. Still, the disease is seen in over 90% of men.
A middle-aged man who smokes should have his vocal cord endoscopic examination performed by an ENT doctor. Alcohol consumption increases the likelihood of the disease.
If you see a doctor at the beginning of hoarseness, early diagnosis can be made.
If the disease is caught in the first stage, it can be treated with laser or radiotherapy methods without surgery.
>Surgery may be required in more advanced stages. In the surgeries performed, breathing and voice functions are tried to be preserved without removing the entire laryngeal tissue.
However, in end-stage cancers, an operation called total laryngectomy is performed by removing the entire laryngeal tissue.
VOCAL CORD NODULES
It is a disease seen in singers, teachers, housewives, professional groups that use their voices loudly and a lot, and children who shout.
Nodules are swollen masses larger than a thin small pimple on the vocal cords, which we call vocal cords, and on the vocal cord mucosa.
Nodules form as a result of the vocal cords hitting each other hard for a long time, tissue deterioration and swelling, and swelling due to the accumulation of inflammatory cells.
Allergy and gastroesophageal reflux play an important role in the formation of the disease. In addition, postnasal drip disrupts the smooth structure of the vocal cords and paves the way for the disease.
Treatment: If there is allergy and reflux, it should be treated.
If there is postnasal drip, it is eliminated. In the treatment of nodules, it is recommended to first reduce the use of voice, not to speak in a high pitch or to shout.
Voice therapy can be applied in cases that do not heal despite these measures.
In nodules that do not heal with voice therapy and are too large to undergo therapy. surgery is performed.
During the surgery, the nodule is removed with a microscopic microsurgery technique.
VOICE THERAPY
In patients with congenital vocal cord anomaly disease, with persistent hoarseness and micro nodules in the vocal cords. Voice therapy is performed.
Generally, the problem is that the larynx is high. In this case, which we call hyperfunctional voice, the larynx is tried to be lowered.
For this, the noble posture is taken and a deep breath is taken with diaphragmatic breathing and the sound is made.
In the water blowing vox technique, 5 different positions are performed in the same position. exercise can be done or 2-3 steps can be applied depending on the condition of the disease.
There are 6 steps of exercise in the doctor vox technique:
1.sostenuto
2.Glissando
3. Portemento
4.Legato
5.Portato
6.Stakato
Each exercise step is planned in a different formulation for different diseases.
For example, in unilateral vocal cord paralysis, it can be applied with a formulation of 5 staccato + 1 sostenuto.
In mutational falsetto disease, it can be applied as 1 glissando + one sostenudo.
Applications are usually done with an instructor twice a week for the first 3-4 sessions, then on your own at home for 2-3 minutes every hour.
The therapy lasts at least 2 months. Control therapies are performed in the 1st and 3rd months. Reading books and singing to the mask at home are useful practices.
