Interpersonal communication

Human is a social being that is affected by and affects his environment. Therefore, establishing relationships is a need for us. Family relationships, friendship relationships, romantic relationships are the types of relationships that exist in our lives. Interpersonal relationships are affected by many factors such as individuals' past experiences, personality traits, and the context in which the relationship is established.

These relationships we establish with the people around us are one of the most important factors affecting life satisfaction, quality of life and mental health. Therefore, it is very important to have healthy relationships in order to be a spiritually healthy adult. Establishing healthy, positive and nurturing relationships is also the key to the social support we need in our lives.

The cause of a significant portion of the problems we encounter in our lives is our interpersonal relationships. Interpersonal problems occur when at least one of the interacting individuals is dissatisfied with the existing relationship. Living together with others in our daily lives makes interpersonal problems inevitable. Trying to eliminate problems or demanding that they do not exist will not be a useful solution. It is more functional to gain the skills to cope with these problems. We need to have social skills to establish healthy relationships. Psychotherapy helps us gain these skills.

Relationship problems occur due to many reasons. One of these reasons is our inadequate ability to communicate. Being able to communicate basically lies in understanding the other person's thoughts and feelings. Our level of recognition, awareness and understanding of our own emotions and those of the other person affects the quality of our relationships. It is very important to be aware of our own emotions and to be able to realistically evaluate what we feel. When communicating, instead of speaking in an accusatory manner, expressing the feelings that the other person's behavior creates in us can take the relationship to a more positive side. Factors such as difficulty in establishing empathy, lack of mutual trust and lack of respect also negatively affect our relationships.
