What is Endoscopy?

Endoscopy is the process of visually examining hollow organs with the help of a camera. Endoscopy is a general term and its name varies depending on the organ examined. For example, when the esophagus, stomach and duodenum are examined together, it is called Gastroscopy. Some endoscopists also define this examination as Upper GIS (upper gastrointestinal system) Endoscopy. In Gastroscopy, a lighted and flexible device called Endoscopy is entered through the mouth into the digestive system and proceeds to the part called duodenum, popularly known as the duodenum. When endoscopy is performed for the large intestines, its name can be defined as colonoscopy.

Endoscopic procedures are performed by creating a conscious state of sleep through a drug called sedation method, and the patient is not disturbed during the procedure. The sedation process is not literally an anesthesia process in the operating room, but sleep during the procedure. It creates a mood and allows you not to remember that period. With the help of special tools passed through the gastroscope; widening of strictures, polyposis. It can be used to remove tumors called (fleshy protrusions) without the need for surgery, to remove swallowed foreign bodies, and to treat bleeding control.

In colonoscopy, the endoscope is entered through the anus, which is flexible and longer than the gastroscope, and a distance of approximately 70-120cm is observed. In which cases is colonoscopy performed?
