Depression is one of the most common psychiatric disorders and is more common in the middle age group. Some things do not give the person as much pleasure as they used to and a depressed mood may occur. To examine in more detail, the clinical symptoms of depression are as follows:
1-Depressed mood: It is one of the most obvious clinical symptoms of depression. In order to make this diagnosis, one of the symptoms such as depressed mood and anhedonia must be dominant. The depressed mood may continue along with the individual's painful and sad feelings. An individual with this mood may experience distressing and painful symptoms for days. In people with different characteristics, such as psychotic features, this mood may have a severe course. A significant portion of patients wake up feeling these feelings when they wake up in the morning. As the depression continues for days, people feel bad.
2- Lack of interest and anhedonia: Unless at least one of the following: lack of interest and depressed mood is present, depression can be mentioned. It is not possible to do so. The individual's interest in social relations and business life decreases, and he no longer enjoys the subjects he used to enjoy.
3-Feeling of boredom, anxiety: Although anxiety is not a structural feature of depression, In clinical practice, it shows a third course after depressive mood and lack of interest. It can manifest itself with symptoms such as feeling of anxiety, tension, intolerance and forgetfulness against frustration, and increased expression of anger. Anxiety is seen in the elderly as physical complaints such as palpitations, dry mouth, sweating, abdominal pain and diarrhea.
4-Thought process: Individuals may have difficulty in answering questions due to the slow flow of thought. or may not respond. In melancholic cases, this course may be more serious, for example, inability to speak may be observed.
5-Guilt-worthlessness ideas: This is usually seen in depression patients and they tend to remember their past memories by feeling guilty. Some� Patients' feelings of guilt are so intense that they may even attempt to end their lives. The decrease in self-esteem confronts the patient with the phenomenon of worthlessness.
6-Sleep problems: Such as falling asleep late, interruptions during sleep
7-Negative thoughts: Depressive patients generally tend to see the outside world, the future and themselves negatively. They create cognitive distortions to support these thoughts.
8-Hopelessness: These people tend to see hopeless.
9-Indecisiveness: Depressed patients may have difficulty making decisions as a result of their negative vision and slowing down of their thoughts.
10-Obsessive ruminations. and phobias: Patients may exhibit an obsessive and generally self-blaming attitude in different areas and increase the depressive period with pre-existing obsessive and phobic thoughts.
11- Suicide ideas and attempts: It is one of the psychiatric disorders in which patients with depressive disorder have high rates of suicidal actions and thoughts. Approximately 65% of patients with depression have passive thoughts of death and suicidal thoughts. While suicide attempts are high in women, the rate of incomplete suicide is high in men.
