Child Connected to the Screen

Nowadays, children can be introduced to technology, computers, phones and tablets at a very early age. It is not possible to prevent this completely, because right now you are reading this article using the technological devices you have or in front of you. Although technology has brought countless conveniences to our lives, it can turn into a dangerous situation and addiction for children. I have stated that it is not possible to completely prevent children from being interested in technology, but it is possible to protect children from the danger of screen addiction by imposing limits on the use of these technological devices.

Introducing the child to objects such as phones and tablets and using them to distract children's attention may initially be seen as a convenience for parents. Objects such as tablets and phones that are given to children who resist eating their food, cry outside, or run around the house to calm them down and make them do what they want can cause addiction in the child over time. It is more likely to occur in children who cannot control screen time and cannot give up games and applications. In screen addiction, different symptoms occur in children depending on their age.

The use of technology is definitely not recommended by experts in the 0-2 age range. In this age range, children who have been exposed to technological devices too much may experience delays in speaking skills, lack of communication with other people, attention deficits, or general reluctance in social life. Tablets or phones placed in front of the child so that he/she can eat without causing any difficulty may cause the child not to have a proper nutrition routine in the future. As screen time increases, it may cause various sleep disorders, eating disorders, and lack of communication in children.

Children's exposure to the screen should be as late as possible and kept under control by parents. This doesn't just mean keeping screen time under control. Parents should pay attention to what games their children play, what videos/cartoons they watch, and with whom they communicate on the internet. Games and videos that may have a negative impact on children should be kept away from them. Games in technological environment The reason why bees attract the attention of children so much is that they have the advantages of achieving results in a short time, being able to win easily and receiving rewards in return.

What parents need to do here is not to take away all technological devices from the child and deprive him of technology completely. Instead of overly restrictive behaviors like this, doing phone/tablet-free activities with their children and spending more time with them can help the child reduce screen time and be more interested in social life. Finding common hobbies and doing them together allows the child to get the attention he needs from his parents instead of expecting it from a phone or tablet. Playing various age-appropriate box games with children will help the child have a pleasant time with their parents (other people, if any) and increase their communication. Family reading times can be arranged by choosing age-appropriate books that the child will enjoy reading together. In this way, your child's reading skills will be improved and he/she can gain the habit of reading instead of using the screen.

Your child can participate in various social activities in order to make friends and adapt to the social environment. Various games can be taught to help them spend time with their friends. The child can be directed to various hobbies. During the parents' free time, they can cook a meal that the child likes together.
