Psychosocial stress increases the risk of sudden stroke
It has been determined that people with high stress levels have a significantly higher risk of sudden stroke than those with lower stress. It was determined that the risk decreased in those who felt that they could control their work and home life
. It has been determined that those who can control their work life
benefit more than those who think they can control their home life
. Those who felt that they had a high level of
control in their work life were found to have a lower risk than those who felt that they had less control. The interstroke study was conducted between 2007-2015
with the participation of more than 25 thousand stroke patients and control groups from 32 countries
. The cases were evaluated within 72 hours of the first ischemic or hemorrhagic stroke patient
admitted to the hospital or within 5
days following the onset of symptoms. Stroke and cerebral hemorrhage among those who experienced stress at home (14.2%
vs. 9.6% in the control group) and those with a high perception of stress at work (23.1%
15.4% in the control group
> was found to be significantly higher. This risk emerged as a result of statistical adjustments
independent of heart disease risk factors such as hypertension and smoking
. However, the presence of a sense of control at work and at home has been observed to reduce this
risk. This study suggests that
changing the professional conditions of the employees and gaining more control over what is happening at work can be an effective way to cope with stress
. Dr Mitchel Elkind, one of the officials of the American Heart Association
, stated that unique initiatives can be made for people working at the corporate or individual level. It has been stated that these unique
initiatives may depend on many factors, including the nature of the business and the workplace environment. In general, it may be possible for employers to
give their employees more control over their working hours, create a flexible working order, or give them a chance to participate in the decisions about the workplace
, and use problem-solving units
. The future is specified.
