Coffee and Health

Coffee; It is a complex beverage containing more than a thousand biologically active compounds such as caffeine, diterpene alcohols and chlorogenic acid. Chlorogenic acid contained in coffee provides antioxidant properties to coffee. The whole world knows how important antioxidants are for our health and the importance of consuming vegetables and fruits.

Coffee owes its stimulating and concentration-enhancing effects to the caffeine it contains. Physiological effects of caffeine include an increase in respiratory rate and metabolic rate, and a sudden increase in blood pressure.

Two substances in coffee, which we call diterpene alcohols, are substances that we can say have the cholesterol-increasing effect of coffee. Of course, this does not mean that 'If we drink coffee, we will have cholesterol disease', but we can say that we should be careful about the consumption of boiled coffees such as Turkish coffee.

GENERAL HEALTH EFFECTS OF COFFEE

Limiting caffeine intake is very important, especially in children. The recommended daily amount of caffeine that can be consumed per kilogram (kg) for children is maximum 2-3mg/kg/day, and for every healthy adult, a maximum caffeine intake of 400 mg/day is recommended (we can think of it as 2-3 cups of coffee). Excessive caffeine consumption causes negative effects such as headache, nausea, anxiety, hypertension and feeling uncomfortable. Factors such as people's age, gender and weight change the need for caffeine depending on the individual.

Studies on caffeine use in women show that 300 mg caffeine intake reduces the fertility rate, similarly, more than 300 mg caffeine intake during pregnancy increases the risk of miscarriage and babies. shows that it causes congenital disorders. Caffeine restriction in pregnant women is generally based on this.

I would like to correct a common misconception that studies conducted in recent years have shown that coffee consumption is associated with heart disease and palpitations in people who regularly consume coffee every day, do not smoke, and do not have a family history of genetic heart disease. It does not cause problems, on the contrary, it has a protective effect against the risk of heart diseases. As I said, the above conditions are important in this.

So much so that coffee is only effective against heart diseases. In addition to its protective effect, it has been proven by many studies that it has a health effect that reduces the general mortality rate. It has also been proven that coffee has a protective effect against diseases such as Alzheimer's and Parkinson's in the elderly.

Keeping coffee consumption to 2-3 cups a day also has a protective effect against heart attack. Although the same is not true for consuming less or more than the specified amount, in general this amount of coffee consumption already meets the recommended amount of caffeine for adults.

Contrary to what has been known for years, it has now been proven and current treatment that coffee has positive effects on liver functions. It has even been added to the methods.

After you adopt a healthy lifestyle in general and take care to keep your health at the highest level possible by eating a regular and balanced diet, do not forget to accept coffee as an aid for your health and consume it regularly.
