The proposition 'thoughts give rise to emotions, emotions lead to behavior', known as the 3D rule in psychology, points to a model where everything starts with thought.
Let's explain it with an example; Feelings of anxiety are inevitable for a person who considers his job interview as a matter of life and death. This feeling of anxiety may cause the person to panic and make mistakes during the interview. Here;
*Thought (getting the job is a matter of life and death) < Emotion (anxiety) < Behavior (panic and wrong answer)
On the other hand, 'it would be good if this job interview turns out positive' But if not, I will gain experience for the next one. The feeling of thinking becomes confidence. The behavior he will bring to him during the interview is to calmly answer the questions. If it is suitable for the job, it has a high chance of being accepted.
*Thought (if it happens, it's good, if it doesn't, it's experience) < Emotion (confidence) < Behavior (appropriate answers)
Sometimes the underlying thought can be very deep and It is impossible for us to notice this. At that point, emotions serve us as our reference. If we are experiencing a disturbing emotion, we should know that there is a negative frequency thought underneath. The reason for most of the situations we cannot solve is that we cannot understand our emotions and lose ourselves in those emotions. When we get lost in emotions, we begin to perceive ourselves as if we were that emotion and we cannot get out of it. For example, we feel like we are completely angry, we may shout and break things under the guidance of it; We feel like anxiety and take on the body of anxiety, our face falls, our attention gets distracted, negative scenarios constantly spin in our minds; etc…
However, our relationship with our thoughts and emotions is like the relationship between the sea and the wave. Just as the wave is not the essence of the sea, thoughts and emotions are not our essence. They are our accessories. There is an 'essence' within us beyond thoughts and emotions, and we have difficulty in capturing that essence through their noise.
Solution; to work with ourselves to understand what the negative thought patterns we can notice are, in what situations they occur, and what alternative supportive thoughts could be instead; in our unclear thought patterns, emotions in situations Defining and accepting our emotions and allowing those emotions to live on and remaining a spectator at all times.
In short, being able to look at all these thought and emotion patterns from the outside and identifying their existence will make us advantageous in understanding ourselves and enable us to display appropriate behaviors. It will keep you protected.
After all, an aware life is a happy life...
Don't you think so? :)
