Depending on the width and extent of the area to be treated, it can be performed under local anesthesia or general anesthesia. In its simplest terms, fat tissue taken from any part of your body is injected into the area where volume increase is desired, after undergoing the necessary procedures. Articles/publications regarding the first application of the method date back to the 1800s. It can be applied today with the development of technology, surgical tools and techniques.
In the first 1-2 weeks following the procedure, the injected fat tissue becomes edematous/swollen, and in the following 2-3 months, it gradually loses volume and increases from the initial amount. It heals in a smaller amount, causing plumping and rejuvenation in the applied area (with a volume loss of approximately 20-30% in the early period and approximately 50% in the late period from the initial amount given). If we talk about how to achieve rejuvenation; With aging, there is a decrease in cells and tissue thinning throughout the body. This occurs to a greater or lesser extent in all tissues in the body (brain, heart, kidney, etc.). Replacing the reduced subcutaneous fat tissue in one area can be called the simulation of reversing time, that is, rejuvenation.
There is no pain in the areas where the fat is injected, but there is pain in the area where the fat is removed, which lasts approximately 1 week - 10 days, depending on the amount taken. There may be sensations such as burning and stinging. It is important to apply cold regularly to the fat injection area for 3 days after the procedure. The time to return to work and daily activities is approximately 7 - 10 days. The method is repeatable. If sufficient volume cannot be achieved after the procedure or if the desired volume is more than that area can safely and healthily receive, it can be applied again in the 6th month. The most important disadvantage of fat injection is that in patients who do not have fat, sufficient fat cannot be removed from large areas (such as the butt, breast, genital area or the entire face), and therefore the injection cannot be performed.
Undesirable results and complications,
1- Volume insufficiency; In some cases, the given fat may melt more than expected depending on the given area or patient variables. In such cases, fat injection can be performed again after the 6th month. U again If the volume desired to be achieved is more than that area can safely and healthily accommodate, two procedures can be planned 6-12 months apart. Such planning is very important in reducing possible complications.
2- Mass/hardness formation; In some patients, the administered fat may form lumps in some areas. If this lump is small, it will disappear over time with firm and frequent massage. Additional surgical procedures may be needed to remove or clean lumps that occur in large and wide areas, causing redness and pain.
3- Infection; The extraction and injection of fats are carried out in completely closed systems, without even air contact. Therefore, the development of infection is very rare. If infection develops, additional surgical procedures and inpatient antibiotic treatment may be required for its treatment. In some cases, redness that may occur in the injection areas due to the oils not surviving and therefore dissolving and liquefying should not be confused with infection.
