The process we are in has led to many large-scale measures being taken in Turkey and around the world. Quarantine, one of these measures taken to protect public health, causes us to talk about the existence of some mental-physical disorders/problems. Situations such as not being able to see our loved ones, not being able to touch them, our social activities being suddenly taken away from us, increasing economic concerns, the uncertainty of the process, the lack of activity we experience over time due to being at home all the time, restriction of physical movement, and many other reasons explain the problems experienced. During and after this process, it is very important to talk about the science of occupational therapy, which is a multidisciplinary team member, as well as the science of psychology - physical therapy and psychiatry. Because when we look at the source of the problems, the restriction of independence in daily living areas is an important definition directly included in the occupational therapy approach, and occupational therapists aim at individual/social independent participation with a holistic approach and engage in therapy approach.
Occupational therapy, psychology - physical therapy and The occupational perspective, which distinguishes it from other health professions, concerns the activities and tasks that the individual performs during the day and throughout his life. Occupational approaches are completely person-centered and are considered the basis of maintaining the well-being of individuals.
I can say that the pandemic process is a good example for understanding this concept. Pandemic problems cause our motivation to decrease. This situation inevitably reflects on the outer world of individuals whose internal motivation decreases.
Occurrences are the central dimension of the human system and this system is shaped by the quality of behaviors. Therefore, the more we are aware of our occupational behaviors, the more our body will reward us with healthy responses. Gaining this awareness will allow us to interpret our roles, routines, values, interests, capacities, feelings and thoughts in daily life. Getting to our core and investigating who we are, what we enjoy, and many other things we wonder about ourselves, especially when we have a busy schedule. Answering many questions that we have postponed answering and thinking about during treatment, and being honest with ourselves and looking hopeful to the future will make it easier for us to get through this process in the best way possible. ;Using the spiritual, physical, sensory, emotional and cognitive characteristics of the client while seeing where there is an obstacle, developing a therapy program appropriate to the wishes and needs, developing skills, preserving existing skills, gaining new skills and making activity arrangements. Creating, developing and implementing the therapy program will be among the intervention approaches of occupational therapists in every aspect of your life, regardless of age and gender, during and after this process.
My wish is to make this process the best by preserving the well-being of humanity. It is about getting over it, but since this may not be possible for some of us, I would like to end my speech by reminding you that we are not far away. Undoubtedly, occupational therapists will be waiting to touch your lives...
Stay healthy.
