Neuroscience has long established that for the human brain to fully function, large areas of the brain, as well as the left and right hemispheres, constantly use electrical impulses to communicate. This is very important because each hemisphere performs different functions that enable us to respond to the world we live in. However, more recent research shows that when the two sides of the brain do not mature at the same rate, this disrupts the balance of electrical impulses between the two sides and hinders communication. There is now evidence that this communication problem is responsible for numerous behavioral, social, and learning disabilities.
Pervasive developmental disorder, Autism, attention deficit, learning disabilities, and hyperactivity are childhood neuropsychiatric disorders that have increased in frequency recently. These situations, the cause of which is not fully known, lead to negative situations for personal and public health.
Although medicine has traditionally classified these children as having a distinct disorder defined by a set of symptoms—primarily autism, ADHD, Asperger syndrome, and dyslexia, among others—evaluation opportunities and new advances in diagnostic imaging techniques show striking similarities in the brains of children with these conditions. We can now see that almost all conditions that negatively impact behavior and learning are actually related to a single problem, an imbalance of electrical activity between areas of the brain, particularly the right and left hemispheres of the brain. There's even a name for it: Functional Disconnection Syndrome (FDS).
When examined carefully enough, you can see that children with these disorders share a number of common symptoms. These are not coincidences. All are symptoms of FDS and differ only in the side of the brain that is out of balance and the severity of that imbalance. Clinical findings vary. Evaluating the brain as a whole contributes to the treatment.
The definition, causes and treatment methods are explained in detail in the book FUNCTIONALLY DISCONNECTED CHILDREN (Cinemascope and NÖRALP Academy). r.
