The most important feature that distinguishes humans from other beings is their ability to think. The fact that the human brain is more developed than other creatures has given people the ability to think rationally and reason. Even though some animals have higher intelligence than others, they certainly cannot think and speak as comprehensively as a human. When we realize that all inventions ever made have come about through thinking, we see that thought is the main source of humanity's development and survival.
If thoughts are so valuable and beneficial to the development of people, why do some thoughts make us feel distressed? In fact, let alone progress, it can even take some people backwards. Human life is based on balance. The best example would be that when you take a small amount of any food, it causes one disease, and when you take a large amount, it causes another disease. If the emotions, including thoughts, are not in balance, if they are too little or too much, they will cause distress to the person. Think about a bad memory you experienced in the past. Even though it's in the past, it bothers you even when you think about it now. The emotion you experienced when you experienced that memory was recorded in a part of your brain, the amygdala. However, when you think about it, even if your logic says that this is in the past and it shouldn't affect you, your emotions will cause you to experience whatever distress you experienced at that moment. Because he will want to keep you alive. Once alarmed and accepted as a threat, that event or thought activates your body's alarm center. He doesn't even want to remind it. It pushes people to avoid thinking those thoughts. At that moment, the person immediately turns to any task or other thought that will distract his attention. This behavior strengthens the belief that those thoughts are still scary. The defense mechanism that works in this way saves the person from a momentary distress. But that thought always remains alive when such avoidance is made. The person is now stuck in a vicious circle.
The solution to the events that seem very difficult and complicated in life is not as difficult as it seems. Sometimes it's even very simple. But since we are stuck in vicious circles, we need to look at the situation from a different perspective. we can't look. Hopelessness settles in and becomes an endless fuel for that vicious cycle. If you want to get rid of thought spirals, listen to your thoughts instead of running away. Repeat. When the negative emotions of the thought decrease, the curtain will lift from your eyes. You will now discover real, not momentary, relaxation. When negative emotions leave, feel the calmness that replaces them. At this point, you will see that there are many solutions to the situation you are stuck in. Remember, life is much larger than the thoughts you are stuck with!
