Avoidant Personality Disorder is a disorder characterized by feelings of inadequacy and extreme sensitivity to rejection.

Some Characteristics of Individuals with Avoidant Personality Disorder

They are sensitive to rejection.

High sensitivity to being undervalued and humiliated

Hesitancy to communicate with people

Feeling unattractive

  Being unhappy, lonely and asocial

  They feel excluded by people.

  They do not go to a meeting unless their friends invite them, they think they are unwanted.

  They are known as "timid" and "shy" by others. .

  Extreme sensitivity to people and events

  Their inner world is in conflict over getting closer and further away.

  They are extremely sensitive to what others think about them.

They do not go to many meetings for fear of being criticized or rejected.

  They struggle with thoughts of how they will make mistakes and be embarrassed in the environments they enter.

Avoidant Personality According to DSM-5. Disorder

Avoidant personality disorder is defined as individuals who meet at least four of the following criteria: social withdrawal, feelings of inadequacy, and hypersensitivity to negative criticism, which manifest themselves widely and in a variety of contexts from early adulthood onwards. (APA, 2013).

·         Avoids professional activities that require significant interpersonal communication for fear of criticism, rejection, or shame.

·         Avoids interacting with people unless sure that they will be loved.

·         He withdraws from intimate relationships for fear of being shamed or ridiculed.

·         He worries that he will be criticized or rejected in social situations.

·         He withdraws himself from a feeling of inadequacy when establishing new social relationships.

·         Feeling socially inept, personally unpleasant, and unpleasant to others He sees himself as inferior to others.

·         He is generally reluctant to take personal risks or try new things because he thinks it will embarrass himself.

Treatment for Avoidant Personality Disorder

Avoidant Personality Disorder treatment can be done with social skills training and cognitive therapy. It can also be progressed through group therapy to practice social skills.
