Delay in Language Development

Retardation in language development in children may be a temporary situation or a significant problem. Although the child continues a certain process in development, various factors can cause language delays in some children. In this case, parents are recommended to closely monitor their children's speaking and listening skills and to seek professional help if they see signs of retardation.

  • Hearing disorders.
  • Hereditary (familial)problems

  • It is best for children with delayed language and speech skills to first undergo an audiological examination. Sometimes parents fail to notice moderate hearing loss in children. If there is a delay in language development, as well as in skills such as sitting and walking, and if eye contact is not made, a pediatric neurologist should be consulted. If no problems are detected in the hearing and neurological examination, the child should be evaluated by a speech therapist.

The speech therapist evaluates language skills and raises the family's awareness of what to do.
