What is a Split Teeth?

Split teeth, gaps between teeth; It is called "diastema" in dentistry. When it is found consecutively in more than one tooth, it is called "polydiastema". When we investigate the cause of tooth separation; Factors such as genetic transmission, gum problems, muscle connections, fractures and caries occur. Genetic inheritance is the most common form.

When we evaluate it from an aesthetic point of view, teeth in a row with no gaps between them; It is more suitable for aesthetic perception. While the gap between teeth does not seem like a problem for some people, some are seriously unhappy with this situation and seek treatment.

Discrete Dental Treatment Methods

Analysis and measurements must be made to determine the necessary treatment to be applied. Treatment planning is the most important step. It is not possible to achieve the right result with a wrong treatment plan. The appropriateness of the treatment and its ability to meet expectations should be the most important feature of the treatment.

For example; In a mouth with widespread diastema, tooth widths and lengths should first be evaluated. In laminate treatment, the spaces will be distributed among the existing teeth and the teeth will be wider than they are currently visible. If the teeth are already wide enough for the facial structure, only the movement of the teeth with braces will be the correct treatment. From another perspective, if the teeth are small and have gaps, the correct treatment would be laminates. Because during orthodontic treatment, there will be no change in the form of the teeth and teeth of the same width will be aligned. Each patient is an individual case and special considerations are required.

First examination; It starts by asking the patient what exactly the complaint is. It is also detailed with x-ray and model analysis. According to the data obtained, alternative plans are discussed. Again, if the need is felt, the designs are shown to the patient digitally or in the mouth.

How Long Does Split Dent Treatment Take?

The area planned to be intervened in the treatment and the type of treatment are the answer to this question. First of all, if there is a gum problem or health problem with the teeth; they are treated. Then, aesthetic treatments begin. If composite laminate, or bonding, is preferred, it may take a single session or several hours, depending on the number of teeth to be applied. The treatment period for porcelain laminates will be approximately one week. In orthodontic treatment, this period is expected to be approximately 12 months.
