The use of the concept of alkaline nutrition dates back to ancient times. This type of diet, which is the subject of research, focuses on pH balance, which affects many mechanisms in the body.

Proponents of the alkaline diet state that alkaline foods have positive effects on disorders such as cancer, weight loss, growth hormone deficiency, and pain, especially calcium metabolism. There are also contrary studies to prove that this view is not true, and it has been emphasized that it may lead to eating disorders such as malnutrition or orthorexia.

The basis of the alkaline diet is based on the principle of consuming less of some foods and more of some foods. This type of diet involves reducing the consumption of meat, dairy products, eggs, whole grains and processed foods; It recommends increasing the consumption of vegetables, fruits and legumes.

Consumption of sugar, salt and meat in the alkaline diet is not completely prohibited, only the amount is reduced.

Foods exposed to pesticides, antibiotics and hormones in acid form are replaced by foods that are exposed to acidic pesticides, antibiotics and hormones. It is advocated that organic foods should be preferred. However, instead of including only alkaline foods in our daily diet, a mixed diet consisting of all four food groups will be healthier.

Although there are very few studies on weight loss, it has been stated that it may be beneficial for bones and kidneys with the nutrients it contains.

Ideal Alkaline Nutrition Plan

It is ideal to keep acid-forming foods at a ratio of one-fourth of alkaline-forming foods at each meal. This ratio should be followed throughout the alkaline diet to lose weight. After losing weight and reducing the acid load in the body, one-third ratio can be achieved. In other words, three times as many alkaline-forming foods should be consumed as acid-forming foods. This rate can be applied as long as the general health condition is good. However, acidification is high if there are factors that affect general health such as diabetes, arthritis, atherosclerosis or intense stress. In this case, the amount of acidic foods should be kept low, and no more than a quarter of alkaline foods should be taken.
