Hypnosis is a method used to maximize suggestibility. It is a widely used method for treatment purposes all over the world because it has no side effects, its positive effects last for a long time, and it has features that increase the comfort of life, provided that it is performed under the supervision of an expert.
It is reported that approximately 90-95% of people can enter hypnosis. Children and young people can enter hypnosis much more easily than people of older ages.
Hypnosis can be used as the main or auxiliary treatment method for many diseases. Depression, anxiety disorders, dissociative disorders, addictions, phobias, weight loss, anorexia nervosa, panic attacks, teeth grinding, restless legs syndrome, vaginismus, premature ejaculation are the areas where hypnotherapy is often used successfully.
Hypnosis and hypnotherapy are different things. Hypnosis is to temporarily influence a person or a group through words, looks, suggestions and similar means. Here, the person's attention is focused on certain points and the person's subconscious is activated. During the day, we sometimes experience a state of hypnosis without realizing it. Examples of this are the moments when you get distracted while driving and do not understand or remember how the journey went. If a child who is busy playing with his toys does not hear you when you call, he is in hypnosis. Hypnotherapy is a method applied for the purpose of treating diseases. It is mostly applied in psychiatric and mental illnesses.
Another point to know here is that the power of the hypnotherapist is not unlimited. A person who is hypnotized does not do anything he does not want to do or does not say anything he does not want to do. Any suggestion that would contradict the person's beliefs, moral values, and value judgments will be rejected even in the deepest hypnosis. The pictures you come across in the media under the name of hypnosis, where people exhibit uncontrolled strange behavior, have no relation with medical hypnotherapy. These are stage shows performed by people with no psychological background or education, with the aim of attracting attention.
