When Cardiovascular Surgery is mentioned, the first surgeries that come to mind are coronary bypass surgeries. Coronary arteries, which are the arteries that feed our heart, surround our heart like a king's crown. Of these vessels, the one that feeds the left side of the heart is called the left main coronary artery (LMCA) and the one that feeds the right side is called the right coronary artery (RCA). Immediately afterwards, it divides into 2 branches to form the left anterior descending artery (LAD) and the circumflex artery (Cx).
LAD,Cx And RCA< Patients with blockages or stenosis of the artery are coronary artery patients. The number of blockages in these vessels, the severity of the blockage, and the length of the blocked or narrow part determine the treatment. Cardiac surgery comes into play in cases where drug treatment is insufficient and procedures such as stents or balloons fail or are likely to fail.
The surgery of bridging a clogged or severely stenotic vessel is called coronary bypass. Mostly, breast arteries (IMA=ITA), arm arteries (radial artery) or leg veins (saphenous vein) are used for the bridge function. Surgeries can be performed with or without a heart-lung pump, and can be performed while the heart is working or with the heart stopped completely.
