What does it mean to be an observer of our emotions and thoughts?

If I am the one observing, we can ask who is doing the thinking.

Although we can activate our thoughts purposefully whenever we want, most of the time it is unintentional. We witness their creation. A thought may suddenly come to our mind, or we may find ourselves lost in thought without realizing it. Thoughts that we want to get away from, suppress, or stop completely often come to our minds against our will. Although it is an attractive idea to think that we can control our mind and thought flow, unfortunately this is not the case. If this were possible, we would only think 'positively' and not get stressed at all, as has been suggested to us for a long time.

Thinking is the unchangeable fundamental feature of our mind. Just as the road in the 'busy road' example exists for cars, the mind also exists to experience emotions and thoughts. Not all thoughts are bad. However, it is very important to know how to establish a relationship with our thoughts.

 

 Even though our mind produces thoughts against our will, we do not have to be a slave to our mind. If we can direct our mind and use it positively, this is not a problem.

 

Meditation is not something we do to stop thoughts or control our mind. On the contrary, the aim is to step back and give up control, learn to passively focus our attention in the direction we want, and simultaneously allow the mind to remain in its natural awareness.

 

Meditation is a skill that can be learned and practiced. It is possible to master it over time. We have all experienced how painful it can be to struggle with our minds. Meditation teaches us that we are not doomed to drift in an endless, unproductive and often stressful flood of thoughts, and that it is possible to experience them in a different way by establishing a different relationship with our thoughts.

 

If we think that our mind determines everything we experience in our lives, just like we need to exercise our muscles in order to have a healthy body, we need to exercise a healthy psychologist. In order to have knowledge, it is very important that we spend time training our minds.
