Both create a similar change in the brain's chemistry. Especially in the "nucleus accumbens", known as the "reward center"... It is observed that substance abusers with ADHD prefer cocaine. The substances that substance users choose are usually not a coincidence. People sometimes use substances to cope with their internal distress that they cannot overcome in any other way, and they prefer substances that are best for their distress. As a matter of fact, the frequency of cocaine addiction in individuals with ADHD also points to this. Cocaine in these individuals; It increases attention, increases self-confidence and is good for focusing skills. Initially used to enhance performance, cocaine quickly turns into addiction due to its strong effect on brain chemistry. The person becomes unable to stop using substances. Withdrawal symptoms and intense drug cravings occur when not used. Most of the time is spent with thoughts and behaviors related to obtaining the substance. All areas of life such as work, family, school, circle of friends are affected and substance use becomes the center of life. The mind that has difficulty in daily life due to ADHD now becomes an "addicted" mind and it becomes increasingly difficult to continue daily life.

Drugs used for Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder are more effective during childhood and adolescence. Early treatment can prevent future substance abuse. Addiction is a treatable disease today, but there is no standard method that suits everyone. It is important to determine why and how people use substances. In order for cocaine addiction to be treated effectively, the possibility of underlying Attention Deficit and Hyperactivity Disorder should always be kept in mind.
