Skin Stains and Treatment Methods

The color of human skin can vary from white to dark brown. Due to this change, it is numbered from 1 to 6, from lightest to darkest. In some individuals, red color may be added due to the effect of subcutaneous vascularization. Pigment formation on the skin is caused by many factors. It can occur for many reasons such as sunlight, sun damage, inflammation, increased hormonal sensitivity, use of certain medications.

When the spot increase occurs in a small localized area, it may be due to different reasons and is treated differently when it spreads to the entire area. For example, age-related senile lentigo, genetically predisposed ephelis (freckles), skin tags, spots that may occur after systemic diseases such as Addison, post-inflammatory spots that may occur after procedures such as waxing or wormwood applied to the skin, and spots that occur due to pregnancy medication use and sun sensitivity, which are the most common. This is the group we see. All of them can be treated in different ways.

In cases such as nevus, fungal infection, some vitamin deficiencies, some spotting dermatoses (ASHY) and systemic diseases (addison etc.), the treatment is directed towards the cause. Nevuses are closely monitored by dermatoscopic examination, and if there is any risk of malignancy, they are sent for surgery and pathology examination. If it occurs as a result of a systemic disease, it is directed to the relevant branch and the treatment of that disease is provided first. If it is related to old age, it is treated either by surgery, cryotherapy, cautery or topical medications.

Spots that cause cosmetic problems on the face, either after pregnancy or after procedures such as waxing, laser etc., should be carefully examined and, if necessary, examined. After light examination, depending on whether the stain is superficial, deep or mixed, it can be treated sometimes with creams, sometimes with peeling, sometimes with mesotherapy procedures, sometimes with stain lasers and sometimes with enzymatic peeling procedures. If the stain is resistant, healing is achieved by combining these treatments. After treatments recommended by unscientific people such as the internet, TV programs, and herbalists, spots may appear much worse than before.

The most important issue in spot treatment is the proper use of sunscreen and follow-up medications. Otherwise, every stain can easily return.
