What is Speech Fluency Disorder (stuttering)?
While a person is speaking or reading It is defined as being stuck, prolonged or repeated in 3 or more words out of every 100. Stuttering appears in many societies. It is not seen at all in some indigenous tribes, but otherwise it is a disorder seen in all societies. It is more common in developed societies than in rural societies. It is more common in boys than girls. Generally, there is no slurring in rhythmic conversations such as singing. A stuttering person may get stuck in some periods and not in other periods.
How is Stuttering Therapy Done?
The standard therapy process lasts between 8-12 days. Sometimes psychotherapy may be necessary
People with fluency disorder (stuttering) and non-neurological stutterers do not get stuck while singing or counting. Stuttering evaluation begins with this.
1- It is necessary to distinguish whether this is a disorder of neurological origin or developmental stuttering. The majority of stutterers we see around us are people with developmental stuttering problems.

2-The patient's assessment and release of tension. People with fluent speech disorder (stuttering) are very tense because they are constantly stuck talking and unable to explain. This tension becomes the source of subsequent problems. In these people, relaxation should be ensured in the larynx, shoulder and chest area.
3- Breathing exercise. People with fluent speech disorder (stuttering) also have extremely disturbed breathing patterns. There is almost no diaphragmatic breathing. Correct breathing techniques and phonation must be taught. If this is not achieved, the gains of stuttering therapy will be extremely limited. He cannot transfer his gains to his daily, natural life.

Rhythm therapy:A rhythm is provided to the speech so that stutterers do not get stuck in rhythmic speech. As each word is spoken, he taps the table once with his hand. It is a successful therapy technique. It is also widely used in our country.
FluencyShaping (Soft phonation technique):It is a technique of prolonging words slightly while speaking or reading. Zeki Müren speech is the most beautiful form of this technique applied to daily life.
DAF: Delayed auditory feedback: the person's own speech is given delayed through headphones with the help of a device. An improvement in speech fluency was observed in 40-70% of the patients.
