The cause of bad breath is a gas called volatile sulfur, which is the waste material of dead bacteria.
Bad odor in breath largely originates from inside the mouth. An oral infection, an advanced gum disease, or simply bacteria settling in food residues that have remained in the mouth for more than a few hours cause odor.
Other systemic problems that cause odor are: Tonsillitis, lung inflammation, sinusitis, diabetes ( acetone smell), gastrointestinal diseases, kidney failure (fishy smell), liver and metabolism disorders.
First of all, the cause of bad breath should be diagnosed and treated accordingly. What needs to be done in case of oral odor:
All decays are treated.
Gum disease is treated. Pockets and tartar are eliminated
Empty and semi-impacted wisdom teeth are removed.
Apart from all this:
Brush your teeth for 3 minutes after each meal and once a day. Use dental floss several times.
Keep your toothbrush in a dry and clean place and wash it thoroughly after use.
The tongue is a tissue where bacteria can easily settle and be difficult to clean due to its very indented and rough structure. Brushing the surface of the tongue, especially the back part, along with your teeth, is important to prevent odor. If you are uncomfortable brushing this surface with a brush, use a clean plastic spoon to clean the tongue by scraping it from root to tip.
Additionally, tongue brushes and tongue scrapers available in the market will be of great help to you in order to clean your tongue comfortably and properly.
Mint candy, mouth sprays or mouthwashes do not prevent bad breath, they only suppress it for a short time (5-7 minutes).
For food-related odors (garlic, onion, alcohol, etc.), a glass of cold milk drank on an empty stomach the next morning will remove the odor. reduces it significantly.
